Trip Informations
Get lost in bustling cities filled with ancient treasures on this eight-day adventure through mainland Greece. Take a guided tour through the Oracle of Delphi in the Sanctuary of Apollo and explore the UNESCO World Heritage site, Meteora, where centuries-old monasteries are built on top of sandstone rock pillars and taste different types of olives, oils and tapenade on your way to Delphi Valley. Walk to the top of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Acropolis, visit NAOMI, an NGO workshop supporting refugees with skill training, and unwind in the evening with a sip of ouzo and traditional dishes.
Why you’ll love this trip
Discover ancient ruins in Athens, including the Acropolis – a UNESCO World Heritage site of an ancient citadel with the iconic Parthenon temple, dedicated to the goddess Athena.
Visit the home of the Oracle of Delphi in the Sanctuary of Apollo. Take a guided tour through the archeological sites, see numerous monuments, temples and the reconstructed Athenian Treasury and learn about the myths and stories of the region.
Climb the stairs to the top of Meteora and discover the UNESCO World Heritage-listed 14th-century monasteries are perched on a series of ancient rock pinnacles.
Indulge in the many flavours of Greek cuisine like moussaka (layered eggplant or potato, meat and a creamy sauce) or grilled lamb and tzatziki during dinner at a traditional taverna as Rembetika music floats around you.
See some of the best sites Greece with curated activities and plenty of free time. Maybe visit the Panathinaiko Stadium that housed the first Olympic games in Athens or walk along the waterfront to the White Tower in Thessaloniki.
Is this trip right for you?
Please keep your luggage as small and light as possible. You'll be travelling on public transport where storage space is limited. You'll need to be able to lift your luggage into storage racks, walk across cobblestone streets with it and carry it up and down stairs.
Summer temperatures can be extreme in Greece (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability for that season.
Hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together.
If you have more time to explore the region, you may like to check out our trip ‘Best of Greece’ (trip code ZMSAC). This trip explores the beautiful Cycladic Islands in addition to the Greek mainland. Most departure dates are designed to create this perfect combination trip.

Our tour group leader Marta was excellent! She took care of all of the organisational aspects of our trip competently and calmly. She was friendly, approachable, kind, considerate and fun to spend time with. We enjoyed the company of our fellow travellers and being part of a small group tour, comprising 10 of us plus our leader. We also like the fact that Intrepid is an ethically responsible travel company and usually includes a visit to a local NGO. The trip itself involved travelling to beautiful places and seeing interesting and amazing things. My only piece of constructive criticism is to try and make the tour a bit more accessible for people with health/mobility issues.

I enjoy the ethnics and safety of travel with Intrepid. By using public transport but with someone to navigate the intricacies of local trains, buses, ferries. I think that I could be still at a large train station without out the Intrepid tour leader showing me where to go and the was out of that complex enormous train station. Also it not just the places you go it’s the people you travel with. We did a family trip when our daughter at the time was 14 and now she is 21 and still in touch with a girl the same age, who lives in Sydney.

The Greece mainland tour is a wonderful way to begin a Grecian Odyssey. Not only wonderful sites but an education into their food, history and way of life. Our tour leader Dina is not only an exceptional tour leader but a wonderful human being. Come to Athens for at least 2 days before of after your tour to really appreciate all it has to offer.

What an amazing trip! It surpassed my expectations on so many levels - Greek Mythology and history, the delicious food, the Monastries and Delphi. Our group was amazing and Dina, our guide, went above and beyond. Wow!!! I would definitely recommend this trip 😀

Dina was awesome and def a contender of the best leader at intrepid. Greece is amazing but wildly hot even in the spring months. Great food and extremely fun to adventure out. Nothing is gonna be the views of the mountains here.

A must for history enthusiasts or those wanting an introduction to Greece. The excursions were all fascinating and the food amazing. The accommodations and transportation were comfortable and authentic. There’s a good balance of scheduled activities and free time. Do it!
