Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Discover ancient ruins in Athens, including the Acropolis – a UNESCO World Heritage site of an ancient citadel with the iconic Parthenon temple, dedicated to the goddess Athena.
Visit the home of the Oracle of Delphi in the Sanctuary of Apollo. Take a guided tour through the archeological sites, see numerous monuments, temples and the reconstructed Athenian Treasury and learn about the myths and stories of the region.
Climb the stairs to the top of Meteora and discover the UNESCO World Heritage-listed 14th-century monasteries are perched on a series of ancient rock pinnacles.
Indulge in the many flavours of Greek cuisine like moussaka (layered eggplant or potato, meat and a creamy sauce) or grilled lamb and tzatziki during dinner at a traditional taverna as Rembetika music floats around you.
See some of the best sites Greece with curated activities and plenty of free time. Maybe visit the Panathinaiko Stadium that housed the first Olympic games in Athens or walk along the waterfront to the White Tower in Thessaloniki.
Is this trip right for you?
Summer temperatures can be extreme in Greece (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability for that season.
Hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together.
On this trip you must pack as lightly as possible because you will be expected to carry your own bag at some points. While you won’t be required to walk long distances with your luggage (max 30 minutes), we strongly recommend keeping the weight under 15 kg. Most travellers carry their luggage in a backpack, although an overnight bag with a shoulder strap would suffice if you travel lightly. Smaller bags or backpacks with wheels are convenient, although we recommend your bag has carry straps to accommodate the cobbled streets, uneven surfaces, stairs and steps you are likely to encounter while carrying your luggage. You'll also need a day bag to carry water and a camera etc for daytrips.
If you have more time to explore the region, you may like to check out our trip ‘Best of Greece’ (trip code ZMSAC). This trip explores the beautiful Cycladic Islands in addition to the Greek mainland. Most departure dates are designed to create this perfect combination trip.

Our tour of the Greek mainland with Dina was amazing! We learnt so much from her and the local guides about Greek history, culture, legends, landscape and food. Dina constantly looked after our interests and made it a most memorable experience.

Mainland Greece tour provided a great opportunity to discover the food, culture & history of Athens & rural Greece. The distances travelled were not excessive & provided a variety of taxis, local buses & coaches for longer distances. The history of Greece is very extensive & enables one to appreciate what Greeks have contributed to human arts, mathematics, culture & building.

Highly recommend the Greece Mainland Dicovery tour. Our guide was very informative, kept us up to date with plans and any changes. Organisational skills were excellent. Her local knowledge of the island was superb. I learnt so much about Greece that I did not know., and the scenery is amazing

Dina was the best tour guide I could ask for. She was organised, knowledgeable, and funny, and created a welcoming group environment where everyone got along. I learned so much from her insights, and her passion/personality made the whole experience unforgettable. I’d definitely tour again with her.

This trip style is relaxing, not too busy, which l enjoyed. You need to be aware, that l think you need reasonable level of fitness to navigate the steps to see the attractions listed and in some cases the hotels which didn’t always have lifts. You need to know that this trip uses public buses and trains, which is fine if you want to experience a more authentic Greek holiday. Those who prefer a private tour using a minivan for your travel to each destination, you need to choose ‘comfort style’. Personally myself l loved it all. The choices of where to eat was more liberal and the hotels used were always in central locations so you could explore easily in free time. Overall l was impressed with Intrepid.

I have been on two Intreip tours so far and will be planing more. The information, the organisation, the support and the knowledge of the company and their tour guides is amazing. I am a 67 year old widow who had never travelled without my husband and I was a little unsure before these trip but know the world is waiting for me and Intreip will be my way.
