Why you’ll love this trip
Wander around 800-year-old trees along the Avenue of the Baobabs.
Cross the Big Tsingy via suspended bridge.
Float down the meandering Manambolo River on a morning canoe trip.
Stay in a cottage deep within the Ranomafana National Park, surrounded by lush rainforest and countless species of flora and fauna.
See how many species of lemur you can spot in Isalo, Andasibe and Ranomafana national parks (there are 33 different types!).
Chill out at laidback Ifaty – this Malagasy seaside village will provide you with plenty of options to explore, adventure or relax as you wish.
Is this trip right for you?
A good level of fitness is required for this trip, there are treks and camping and long journey it is a long trip so we recommend being in good physical condition to get the most out of your trip.
There are two nights of river camping on this tour. There are no bathroom facilities and it will not be possible to shower for three days, though water is available for washing.
It takes a while to see all this trip has to offer, and some of the places we visit are remote, so you need to be able to manage long travel days and bumpy roads.
Some accommodation inside the national parks is basic and may not have the creature comforts of hotels in bigger towns and cities. Be prepared for no wifi or air conditioning, but also for charming, tucked away locations you won’t quite believe are real.
The visible vertical drop at the Big Tsingy can be quite intimidating especially for those with vertigo.
This itinerary includes a canoe ride along the Manambolo River.

What an amazing trip! Highlights include the Avenue of Baobabs, small and large Tsingy, river camping and singing and dancing with the boat crew, hidden waterfalls, remote villages, excellent hikes, great food, heaps of lemurs, lizards, geckos, chameleons, rainforest treks, and a great guide Patric. Long travel days with little downtime to relax. Everyone got a bit sick at some stage of the trip. But worth going. It certainly was an adventure.

Amazing trip, Barnabas is an amazing guide. We learnt so much about Malagasy tribes, culture, way of life as well as the fantastic wildlife/birds/landscapes. Be prepared as some of the walks are tough and the travel between places can be long and arduous due to poor road conditions, some days are very long but it was all worth it for a truly magical adventure.

A great trip. Yes long travel times, but it went fast! Good books and music and travel mates made it easier too. Worth it b/c the lemurs and the people in Madagascar are super. Note: Big Tsingy hike couldn't do. I could've done the suspension bridge but not the hike to get there. I'm a city gal (and I'm short) and hike ONLY when I travel in the summer. My friend w/long legs and who IS a hiker said parts of BT was a stretch for her. All the other hikes on the trip are totally doable. I did them all and even took advt of the extended hikes to see more lemurs. Not always easy but definitely doable! Go for it!

If you enjoy an adventure, (not for comfort tourists) and want to see unique wildlife and flora like lemurs and chameleons and baobabs whilst being on a well managed tour with attentive, hard working informative guides, then Intrepid Madagascar in Depth is for you. Really enjoyed it and learned a lot about a country which holds many treasures but is also in danger of losing them. It is a magic country and so glad Intrepid took me there.

An amazing, unique adventure to discover the beautiful people and culture, as well as the weird and wonderful creatures of Madagascar. You will be taken over by lemur-fever! Not always easy-going but if you're up for a challenge, the rewards are truly magical.

Go with an open mind, leave your past behind and let Madagascar fill you with wonder. Thanks to our brilliant Group Leader, Bruno, and the drivers, hotel staff and locals we met along the way, this trip was the experience of a lifetime which I am so pleased to have been part of. Distances between destinations is long and roads can be really rough but Madagascar truly is like nowhere else on earth and I would recommend anybody to visit as long as they have a decent level of physical fitness and patience (as everything in Madagascar goes "Moora Moora" which means "Slowly Slowly" in Malagasy. Madagascar is Magical!

The tour through Madagascar was varied and we enjoyed it very much, even if we sometimes wished the driving routes were a little less long. We saw lots of different lemurs and chameleons, especially on the second part of the tour, which was great. We really appreciated Patrick as a guide, his always calm and friendly manner. He enjoyed sharing his extensive knowledge with us, was always open to talking about any topic and also revealed a lot about his private life, which was very interesting. Many thanks.

This is a fascinating and ultimately very enjoyable trip, but it is not without its challenges. There are long days of travel (longer than trip notes indicate) and Intrepid should look at making itinerary changes to add internal flights or find other ways of reducing time in the bus on some days. You need good fitness to cope with the travel and activities in the first part of the trip, and you also need to be comfortable with bush toilets! Overall we had a great time and are very glad to have done this trip, but we now time to recover!
