Why you’ll love this trip
Count how many species of lemur you can spot as you explore the Isalo National Park, Ranomafana National Park and Andasibe National Park.
Join a local guide on a night walk and catch sight of the exciting nocturnal species that come out when the sun goes down, like endemic butterflies, chameleons and mouse lemurs.
Learn more about the important Malagasy process of silk production by visiting an association outside the village where silk weavers use their craft to preserve local tradition and support local women in the community.
Support a noble cause while exploring Anja Community Reserve and the Mitsinjo Forest – these reserves are not just sanctuaries for wildlife but also beacons of community empowerment and conservation.
Take a hands-on chocolate-making class and learn the secrets that make Malagasy chocolate unique and delicious. Then, sample your creations with pastries, tea, coffee and rum!
Is this trip right for you?
Although anyone with a good level of fitness should be able to partake in this trip, there are several challenging guided day walks through the many national parks, which can be hot and humid. Please ensure you bring sturdy hiking or trail shoes and comfortable clothes.
Road conditions in Madagascar are notoriously very poor and unmaintained. Due to government inaction and yearly monsoons, conditions can be terrible and a level of patience is required. Most of the driving days on this trip will be long and bumpy.
Sometimes, you’ve got to rough it to get among it! Some accommodation is basic and may not have the creature comforts of hotels in bigger towns and cities. Be prepared for no wi-fi or air conditioning.

First time using intrepid travel, and now I know it won’t be my last time. It was so great being able to explore a new wonderful place while knowing that everything is taken care of by knowledgeable people. Not having to stress or worry at any point once the trip started. Game changer for me.

Madagascar is a magical land of incredible people who create beauty from the way they live their lives with respect for the land. This Indian Ocean gem off the coast of Africa fuses French colonial traditions alongside African and Asian approaches to the land. It's a truly remarkable place.

Our first Intrepid trip so didn't know what to expect. Madagascar is a fantastic and very diverse country. Over the course of a couple of weeks you go from desert to savannah to mountains to rainforest and then a thriving city. The wildlife is amazing, especially the Indri Indri Lemurs! Joana (Jon) was our guide and he really made the trip. The other local guides were also fantastic. You do have to prepared for some very long driving days on poor roads but with the scenery they don't feel as long as they are. There are also some hikes which are moderately demanding but that is exactly what we wanted. We loved this trip, the country and the people and would recommend Madagascar to anyone wanting a bit of adventure.

An awesome introduction to Madagascar, its culture, the Baobab trees and the lemurs - more than the Ring-tailed lemur from the movie Madagascar! Would wholeheartedly recommend this adventure, and our tour Leader, Barnabas - was the Best!

Would recommend this trip to anyone looking to discover more about this amazing island and its wildlife. Our tour leader Patric was incredible, the trip was well organised and he was generous in sharing his knowledge and insight into Malagasy culture. The roads are generally in a very bad state and travel is slow, but it is worth it!

My Intrepid trip to Madagascar was absolutely fantastic, nothing short of amazing. Their tour guides are incredible, their accommodations fantastic, & their adventures & local visits they arrange are amazing. My tour guide even arranged for a private night tour into the rainforest for I & my travel partner because we were specifically looking for tenrecs in the wild. Everything went above & beyond my expectations.

This was a unique and diverse trip, far more than just a wildlife trip with insights into culture and traditions. I was apprehensive about the long drives, but was a positive experience with information from the guide, changing scenery and tastes of various local goods. We were well looked after by driver, assistant and guide. Saw over 10 species of lemurs, chameleons, baobab trees, birds and several other unusual creatures. Highly recommended.
