Trip Informations
The ancient site of Teyuna (or the Lost City) sits within the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains and can only be reached by a guided multi-day trek. On this week-long active trip, you’ll do just that, with knowledgeable local leaders to guide the way. Starting in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Cartagena, you’ll jump straight into local Colombian culture, explore the scenic port city of Santa Marta and then begin your trek to the Lost City. Meet local indigenous leaders, sleep in mountain campsites away from the hustle and bustle of modern life and spend four days in the mountains, hiking through rainforest and jungle to this sacred Colombian site – a perfect adventure for hikers and explorers seeking a challenge!
Why you’ll love this trip
Hike to the Lost City of Teyuna – a sacred archaeological site in Colombia. Guided by your local leaders, revel in the secrets of a site only reached by multi-day hiking.
Spend four days trekking in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada through tropical rainforest landscapes, along rivers and surrounded by mountain views – a great opportunity for a true digital detox.
Visit the indigenous Wiwa community, where a spiritual guide and leader of the community will share their ways of life, including the roles of local women and men within the community.
Wander beneath Cartagena balconies overflowing with flowers – this UNESCO World Heritage-listed town combines Caribbean charm and old-world accents.
End your trip in Santa Marta – fringed by beaches spilling onto the Caribbean Sea, this is the perfect place to relax after your trek.
Is this trip right for you?
There are four days of strenuous trekking on this trip. You'll be trekking between 4 to 6 hours a day and the highest altitude reached is 1200 m (3937 ft) at the Lost City itself. The humidity and the heat make this trek challenging. Throughout the year, the daytime temperatures are generally between 30°C to 45°C.
In the dry season (December to March), the trail can be dry and dusty. In the wet season (April to November), there can be heavy rain and muddy conditions.
You will need to carry your own backpack on the trek. Your fully-packed trekking backpack should not exceed 10 kg total weight.
You'll experience a wide range of accommodation types on this trip, from hotels to dormitory style accommodation in rustic bunks throughout the trek.

The hike was difficult due to a combination of terrain and humidity/heat but the adventure of it all was worth it without a doubt. The tour itself was very well organised and supported. Our guides were fabulous!

This trip was very diverse in it's itinerary, it made a fantastic holiday and I would thoroughly recommend it. The hike to the lost city was hard going, but very enjoyable and I would advise anyone doing it to get fit beforehand.

This trip pushed my limits and was deeply rewarding. Finding Ciudad Perdida was pure magic. The best reward for such a hard hike is discovering a place so ancestral and sacred. Giuliano’s knowledge, calm, and connection to the territory made it unforgettable.

This tough hiking experience requires a high level of fitness and endurance, especially as it is hot, humid and may rain. The rewards are great with beauty, a spiritual experience and huge sense of achievement. The guides are outstanding and inspiring. Do it!

Hernan was a wonderful guide and helped our group accomplish and enjoy the challenges of the 4-day Lost City Trek to the Ciudad Perdida in Colombia. It was a culturally and historically rich experience that will stay with me forever.

Excellent trip, the leaders were very familiar with the hiking and helped us prepare very well. The lost city was amazing and they really ensured we experienced it to the fullest. The trekking was difficult but we were all able to go at our own pace

This trip is not for the faint of heart, but if you know what you're getting yourslef into, you'll be rewarded with an unforgettable experience. Four days of hiking in jungle heat and humidity is the price you'll pay to see a civilzation hundreds of years older than Machu Picchu. Are you ready?

A real adventure in the jungle! Heat, humidity, adventure, exhaustion, elation, mysticism, reality of hiking four days straight. Not for the faint of heart, but if you prepare and gird your loins this may top your list of life experiences. Ranks up there with Macchu Picchu , Ankor Wat and Great Zimbabwea world-class ancient site.
