Dine with a local family in the village of Rakovica, experiencing a slice of life in Croatia and enjoying a home-cooked local dish.
Learn how to make traditional soparnik, a popular Croatian dish, prepared by a local family who regularly supplies the dish for events and festivals in town.
Meet the people who create and produce regional delicacies across Slovenia and Croatia, from truffle farmers to Benedictine nuns who grow fresh fruits and vegetables in their nunnery.
Explore stunning landscapes, villages, towns and cities, immersing yourself in the culture of Split, Bled, Zadar, Rovinj and Motovun.
Eat regional delicacies in the places they’re produced. Hunt for your own truffles, sip on glasses of local wine, taste the cured meats and cheeses iconic to the region and savour local deserts that will set your tastebuds alight.
Is this trip right for you?
The cuisine of Slovenia and Croatia includes a lot of meat and seafood. For vegetarians and vegans we recommend reviewing the itinerary and inclusions to ensure that you will be able to fully participate and enjoy this trip. We also have many other trips to Slovenia and Croatia which can accommodate a range of dietary requirements.
The Croatian coast is very hilly and mountainous and stairs are commonplace. You will have to be able to easily lift your luggage and carry it up and down stairs and inclines, so packing light is recommended. The cobblestone streets become very slippery when wet. Some people may find Croatia's topography very demanding.
Summer temperatures can reach 40C/105F or higher in some areas, so it's important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.

Intrepid has done it again! This lovely trip includes medieval sites, comfortable and interesting accommodation and a tour leader who provides cultural information, history and insights. Our leader made sure we knew where we were going each day and organised lovely food and wine! If you want an interesting holiday, this is wonderful! Note: Be careful to pack extremely lightly as the cobblestones kill wheels and hard suitcases. Rember - happy tourists carries a light pack!

This tour was an incredible way to immerse myself in local culture, connect with community members, and sample a variety of delicious cuisines. I had the chance to participate in unique experiences that I never would have discovered on my own, such as truffle hunting, visiting local wineries, and enjoying homemade delicacies in the homes of local residents. It’s also an excellent introduction to the beauty and charm of Slovenia and Croatia. One thing to note: our tour had only three travelers. Of course this might vary depending on the season but something to consider if the group travel aspect is a priority.
