Trip Informations
Experience the natural wonders, delicious cuisine and rich cultural history of Belize on this eight-day adventure. This often-overlooked country is full of lush jungle, ancient ruins and vibrant coral reefs – and you’ll experience it all! Kicking off in Belize City, travel to the Lamanai Archaeological Site to explore the remains of the Maya civilisation, learn traditional recipes at a cooking class with local women in San Ignacio and cross into Guatemala to spot howler monkeys in Tikal National Park. Finish your adventure in the island paradise of Caye Caulker to relax into the Bel-easy-an way of life.
Why you’ll love this trip
Unwind on the paradisical island of Caye Caulker. Swim in the warm Caribbean waters, snorkel over shallow reefs and feast on freshly caught seafood and street barbeque.
Meet a group of Maya women at a co-operative in San Ignacio to make your own corn tortilla, the traditional Maya way, and learn about how the organisation empowers local women.
Spot colourful birds on a boat ride along the New River to the Lamanai Archaeological Site. Dating back to 1500 BC, the ruins are a fascinating insight into a once-thriving Maya city.
Hop across the Guatemalan border to explore Maya ruins in Tikal National Park. Explore towering temples and pyramids surrounded by thick rainforest home to coatis, monkeys and parrots.
Opt to hike and wade through shallow river waters to Actun Tunichil Muknal, where crystallised skeletons and ancient Maya relics have been preserved for over 1000 years.
Is this trip right for you?
In tropical Central America, it can get really hot and humid. Carry plenty of water as hydration is key, especially when you’re walking around a lot.

This trip is well paced with included and optional activities. The optional activities are explained for each free day making it easier to choose. Highly recommend the ATM cave. Jonathan was an amazing guide for our very small group of four. Highly recommend this tour!!

Was awesome to get so much in one tour. For half of it, cultural, ruins, jungle and the other half of the tour to the islands with sunsets, snorkelling, boat trips. I felt I saw Belize completely.

An Indiana Jones style vacation. My 5th solo trip with Intrepid (M, 34), and the groups and guides are always excellent. This itinerary was quick but well rounded, with less long road days than other intrepid trips I’ve done. We explored ruined Mayan cities, waded through caves filled with 1000 year old skeletons, and swam in crystal clear waters with sharks and rays. Highly recommend an extra day in Caye Caulker and the ATM Cave excursion. Note that most meals and extra activities aren’t included so make sure you budget extra. And note that Belize is very pretty but incredibly slow slow slow, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time for unexpected delays on travel days and don’t expect 5 star service at restaurants. It’s a different pace of life but well worth it to see the unique history and landscapes on offer.

I had such a good time on this trip. The group leader was excellent and the group of travelers was so nice and diverse. It was a good balance of organized activities with free time to explore. The progression of the week also worked well with a beautiful final unforgettable day on the reef snorkeling . The food was delicious.
