Is this trip right for you?
There are some long travel days on this trip. We will be driving by private transport (as there are no suitable public transport options available). Some of the roads can be quite bumpy as local infrastructure development is limited. We will make stops to break up the trip and it is a good idea to read or listen to music along the way, and to bring some medication if you are prone to carsickness.
Accommodation in general in Flores is more basic than you would experience in Bali as tourism is still developing. There are some nights there hot shower is not available and the rooms will be multi-share. This is, of course, a small price to pay for the chance to venture off the well-beaten tourist path.
You will need to be a confident swimmer to participate in this trip’s included snorkelling activity. Those who don't wish to snorkel can choose to spend time on the boat or beach instead.
There are some included treks so good fitness and suitable footwear is required. See the itinerary for more detail.

Itinerary
Encounter Komodo dragons as you explore Flores Island
Discover charming island life on a tour across Flores – Indonesia's ‘Flower Island’. On this nine-day trip, you’ll hike to Mt Kelimutu at sunrise, soak in the Mengeruda Hot Springs, visit a remote village in Wae Rebo and walk through the spiderweb rice terraces. Spend two days sailing through the Komodo Islands and hike to the top for amazing views, swim at Pink Beach and see the home of the Komodo dragon up close. Exploring one of Indonesia’s less-touristed islands, this is one adventure you’ll remember for years, taking the road less travelled and experiencing the unique culture and hospitality of Flores along the way.

This was our second trip to Indonesia with Intrepid and we had a great time, again. Travelling through Flores and Komodo was truly an adventure with plenty of challenging physical activites and interesting stops along the way. As advertised there were long drives along bumpy and windy roads but it was fantastic to explore volcanoes, traditional villages, ancient caves and forests on Flores; encounter dragons on Komodo; and snorkel with turtles, rays and a myriad of stunning fish and coral in the warm waters around Labuan Bajo. We had a lovely group, and Yohanes was a fabulous leader.

I love small group travel! I love not having to plan! I love having a guide to take care of me!

Fast trip around Flores and Komodo. The cultural experiences are remarkable. We got redirected from Komodo to Rinca, initially I was sad but then we saw 17 dragons.

Had such a great time on this trip. The hot springs, the sailing weekend and of course the dragons were a massive highlight! Yohanes was an awesome group leader!

Not for the faint-hearted, this trip involves a lot of time in a bus on mountain roads with a multitude of switchbacks. The itinerary describes the trip accurately and offers a great experience off the beaten track. The days on the boat are simply magnificent!

Be prepared for some bumpy roads and stunning scenery from rice fields to sea views and mountains which make the road travel worthwhile. The different tribes and village customs are fascinating and another reason to explore more of diverse Indonesia.

Absolutely recommend this trip to anyone willing to see Indonesia from a more raw perspective. While the days and drives may be long, the wait is worth it at every stop. An absolutely unforgettable experience - leaving was like waking up from a dream, I didn't want it to end. Trips will never be perfect without a good group configuration and excellent guide. Thankfully, I had both. I'm so grateful for my guide Yohanes, who did everything and more to ensure we had an enjoyable trip. His knowledge of Flores was outstanding. Yohanes is unbelievably kind, if you needed something, nothing was too much to ask. Thank you for making this trip one I won't forget!

Great trip to an island in Indonesia that will become much more touristy soon so go now! Good mix of overland, hiking, and on the water.

Yohanes, our group leader, helped us experience a great adventure during this trip. The best part of the trip was the last 2 days sailing, hiking, and snorkeling in komodo National Park. We were extremely lucky to see 6 komodo dragons, including a baby dragon. Go before the rest of the world finds out, and it gets crowded.

Fascinating, unique tropical island tour through unspoilt landscapes, with many local villages, rice terraces and waterfalls and full 2-day sailing in Komodo National Park the highlight. But compressed into 9 days means there is a lot of time spent in the bus as there is a lot of ground to cover. Suggest book pre-days in Moni / Kelimutu!
