Trip Informations
Journey through Australia’s Outback on a 14-day adventure through the Kimberley region. Weave through the boulders and chasms of the Bungle Bungles in the Purnululu National Park, dive into the infinity pool at Lake Argyle and unwind in natural thermal pools in El Questro Wilderness Park. Take a helicopter to see Mitchell Plateau from above, hike to gorges and tiered waterfalls and search for freshwater crocodiles at Windjana Gorge. Learn about the rich First Nations history of the area from Traditional Custodians and spend each night camping under the stars.
Why you’ll love this trip
Spend two days exploring the Bungle Bungles– a unique orange and black striped 'beehive' formation more than 20 million years old.
Relax at Lake Argyle – one of the largest man-made lakes in the southern hemisphere. Kayak, stand-up paddleboard or swim in the infinity pool and soak up the views of the area.
Hike to gorges and waterfalls in the El Questro Wilderness Park. Unwind in the natural thermal pools shaded by palm trees and look for ripple markings in the rocks, formed under shallow tidal waters millions of years ago.
Explore the rugged terrain of the Mitchell Plateau on a 4WD adventure. Hike to the four-tiered Mitchell Falls and take a helicopter flight back to camp for panoramic views from above.
Visit the secluded Dalmanyi (Bell Gorge) and swim in the clear pool, surrounded by a horseshoe of cliffs and tiered waterfalls.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip involves plenty of walking over varied terrain and is best suited to travellers with a good level of mobility. A reasonable level of fitness and being sure on your feet is necessary to participate. Good footwear (hiking boots with ankle support and closed toe water shoes), clothing for all types of weather (sun protection and warm layers for the evening), plus perhaps walking poles are recommended for extra stability on uneven rocky terrain. Details on physical activities can be found in the daily itinerary.
This is a camping trip for those who are looking for the basics. Simple facilities and lack of emphasis on creature comforts make this an authentic experience of the Australian outback. All of the camping equipment you need is provided, including a mattress to sleep on, tents, comfortable camping chairs, linen and a pillow. All you need to bring is a sleeping bag (or hire one from us for an additional cost). A Single Supplement is not available on this trip. As a single traveller, you will be paired up with another single traveller of the same gender.
Please note that you must bring your own sleeping bag, suitable to the conditions. Please familiarise yourself with the weather conditions that are to be expected at the time of your trip. You can also hire a sleeping bag from us at an additional cost. This must be requested with your booking agent no later than 14 days prior to departure.
On some days of the trip, you’ll spend several hours driving through very sparse areas of Australia. Sit back and enjoy landscapes that you would miss in any other form of travel. Extra space can be tight, and conditions may feel a little cramped. There will be some very early mornings.
It is very important that you advise us of any dietary requirements and allergies at least 2 weeks prior to departure. We need this information well ahead of time to be able organise catering for the trip. This trip’s remote location means that some food items will not be available on short notice, and once the trip has commenced changes to dietary requirements are not possible. Please also advise us of any medical conditions at the time of booking and bring along any personal medication. Please note that if you require urgent medical attention during the trip, it may take several hours or more for emergency services to attend the scene and take you to a medical facility.

WEATHER
Departures are all subject to regional weather conditions and road closures – usually only a concern in Apr & Oct / Nov.
LUGGAGE
Space in our vehicles is limited so please keep luggage light – bring only essentials in a small soft bag, MAXIMUM 15kg. Suitcases are NOT suitable. Excess luggage must be left in Broome or sent to a forward destination.
PARTICIPATORY CAMPING
It is important that travellers participate in setting up camp each night, though the leader can assist where necessary. The leader also appreciates the assistance or one or two group members in preparing/clearing meals. It is essential that all our groups leave the camp they stay in as they found them for the next travellers - the Kimberley is a pristine wilderness and it is our responsibility to ensure it stays this way.
DIETARY REQUIREMENTS
It is very important that you advise us of any dietary requirements and allergies at least 2 weeks prior to departure. We need this information well ahead of time to be able organise catering for the trip. Broome's remote location means that some food items will not be available on short notice, and once the trip has commenced changes to dietary requirements are not possible.
MEDICAL CONDITIONS
As we operate in remote areas, you will need to bring all of your own personal medications with you. While our leaders are qualified in remote area or wilderness first aid and carry satellite phones, we do not carry any emergency medications. If a person requires urgent medical attention during the trip, it may take several hours or more for emergency services to attend the scene and take you to a medical facility. If you have any pre-existing medical issues that will affect your ability to complete the trip or may have an impact on other guests’ experiences and you do not disclose these prior to the departure, we reserve the right to remove you from the trip.

Our Intrepid 14 day tour of the Kimberley was so well organised, our guides so knowledgeable, we saw and learnt much more than we expected of in the most remote areas in Australia and the food was first class and support incredible.

Our 14 day Intrepid tour of the Kimberley was supported by 2 amazing women who drove carefully over challenging roads, supported hikes and informed us about beautiful natural sites, then cooked amazing meals! They went over and above when a medical risk became evident.

My wife and I recently completed an Intrepid 14 day Kimberleys tour, both of us agree it has been our best holiday ever, surpassing some great holidays oversees. The tour exceeded expectations in value, tourist locations, knowledge, care, cooking, passion, environment sustainability and indigenous understanding. If you want to see the beauty of Australia with a great tour operator, book yourself a seat!

Our Kimberley adventure was an unforgettable experience, showcasing breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage and remarkable wildlife. Tour leaders Iam Love and Daniel Wolf were exceptional—knowledgeable, organised, and endlessly supportive. Iam's Indigenous knowledge and astronomy insights and Wolf's enthusiasm and culinary skills perfectly complemented each other, creating truly memorable journey.

The Kimberley is beautiful. Luckily, because you’re on a bus a lot, looking out at the scenery. In between are hikes to awesome waterfalls, a boat trip to appreciate the size of Lake Argyle, a walk in Purnululu, tents, cultural learning, the best campfire roast you’ll ever have, great conversation, huge river crossings and the most wonderful way to immerse in the Kimberley. Take a walking pole, be prepared for very early mornings and enjoy every minute.

The 14 day Kimberley camping tour run by Iam and Wolf was utterly amazing. They were the best guides. So full of joy and fun. They were careful, caring and treated each person as an individual and made us feel seen. They both had huge knowledge, skill and strength. They put in effort above and beyond their jobs.
