Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Size up mighty Mt Kilimanjaro from the lush tropical surrounds of Marangu, as you prepare to ascend the incredible mountain with the help of an experienced climber.
Travel with experienced guides and porters. You'll be in great hands – with one guide for every two passengers – so all you’ll have to worry about is soaking up the scenery and keeping your footing!
Soak up Kilimanjaro’s changing scenery – magnificent rainforests and high-alpine deserts to ice fields and vast glaciers – this is all on display as you tackle the trails to the top of Africa.
Catch a dazzling African sunrise from Stella Point on your way to summit Africa's highest mountain peak – definitely a rewarding experience after an early wake-up call!
Feel good knowing that you’re supporting an official partner of IMEC’s Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP). This means that all our climbs have been assessed and scored based on a number of criteria, all of which are designed to ensure the proper treatment of porters.
Is this trip right for you?
A good level of fitness is required to join this trip. While the distances covered are not far, the effects of altitude will make it much harder than the usual uphill hike.
To allow for your body to adjust to the altitude the going will be slow. The speed of the hiking may be much slower than you are use too. However, we have found that this slow speed allows your body’s reserve levels to remain higher plus also allows for your body to adjust to the altitude as you walk.
Tried and tested all-purpose hiking equipment is required. Night-time temperatures can get very cold above 3500 m so warm clothing and sleeping bag is essential. Hiring of equipment/sleeping bag is also possible.
Your safety comes first. All our guides and trek leaders have been trained by independent, UK-based medical specialists and are proficient in first aid. They also carry oxygen cylinders on all treks for emergency use.
Be prepared for dusty and therefore dirty conditions. It can be tough going hiking for continuous days without a shower. A dust mask, wet wipes and face washer may become your best friends.
Itinerary

Embark on an eight-day trip trekking the challenging Machame Route to the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro – Africa's highest point. With local guides and porters making your hike that much easier, set up camp at night and soak up all the incredible scenery along the way. Then at the very top of Uhuru Peak, rising 5896 m above sea level, feel the exhilaration and sense of achievement as you marvel at the incredible views and consider what you’ve just accomplished. I had the most amazing trip with Intrepid. Angela and the team were tremendous and committed to giving each of us the best experience and opportunity to safely climb Mount Kilimanjaro. I made some great friends, pushed myself physically and mentally to new limits and I made it to the Top! I have memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Thank you Angela, Rocky, MK and the rest of the Intrepid team for what you did for me and the others during our trip!

Excellent hike to the summit of Kilimanjaro. Our small group of 4 all submitted thanks to the lead of Rocky and Selina and amazing support from our chef Asha and team of porters. We had 3 delicious cooked meals a day, warm tents and sleeping bags. Well organised and unforgettable experience of a lifetime. Kudos to Rocky and the team for going all out to make sure we conquered Kilimanjaro. I will remember this forever!

An amazing and incredibly challenging trekking experience to one of the most iconic mountains in the world. We had the most amazingly supportive team of guides (Rocky and Selina) an incredible chef (Asha) and an incredible crew of porters. They made the whole experience magical and I would have never made it to the top without their amazing support.

I reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. I could NOT have done that without the help of the ENTIRE Intrepid team. The leaders were fantastic and very attentive. The cooks worked magic on the trip, and we ate like royalty. The porters were phenomenal and had everything packed up and installed at the new campsite before we even knew what happened. I loved the trip and the entire Intrepid crew. I'm eager to discover a new destination! OH -- and all the backend stuff was great as well. Their online chat team was extremely helpful in getting last-minute details organized. Thanks, Intrepid!!!
