Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Glide through the lily-filled waterways of the Okavango Delta on a mokoro (a small dugout canoe) and escape civilisation with an overnight stay at your island camp.
Be mesmerised by the staggering force and beauty of Victoria Falls, and experience firsthand why it’s known as the ‘smoke that thunders’ – a natural wonder that must be seen to be believed.
Chill out on the northern beaches of Zanzibar, enjoying the white sands and the sparkling blue of the Indian Ocean, and consider learning about the island's spice trade on a guided visit to the local plantations.
Listen to the songs and stories of Namibia’s San people, the oldest inhabitants of southern Africa, and gain an insight into their traditional customs and beliefs.
Discover the magic of South Luangwa National Park on a dawn and afternoon 4WD safari game drive. This park is a highly concentrated arena of noble African beasts and exotic wildflowers.
Is this trip right for you?
No two journeys in Africa are identical. There will be many early starts either to make use of the better safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days. Be prepared for travel times to be longer or shorter than advised. Weather and road conditions can change things significantly, so embrace the detours, shortcuts, and unforgettable moments along the way.
This is a participatory overland camping trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle, visiting remote communities, setting up your tent, helping out with camp chores, occasionally roughing it in the bush with no facilities, and getting the best possible views of iconic African wildlife. For more info on this style of travel, see our Africa overland page at tuuur.com/africa/overland.
Camping in the Serengeti National Park with no barriers between you and the animals is amazing, but it's important to heed the safety advice of your leader. You'll be briefed on arrival.
The day-to-day itinerary features a selection of optional activities. Please note that this list is not exhaustive and is intended only as a guide. Prices are approximate and may change at the discretion of the local provider. All activities are subject to availability.

A Truly Transformative African Experience Our trip to Africa was nothing short of a bucket-list dream made real. It was an exceptional journey that perfectly blended the thrill of authentic wilderness adventure with an astonishing level of comfort and care.

This trip isn’t for people who need two showers a day. But if you want to see the ‘real’ Africa this may be for you. You’ll put up a tent and pull it down more times than you can remember, you’ll laugh lots while washing up and you’ll fall asleep at night listening to the quiet. You’ll see amazing sights and visit far flung places. It’s remarkable way to travel.

This is a a phenomenal way to see Africa - essentially road tripping through multiple African countries, seeing and experiencing different cultures and ways of life throughout the journey with a caring crew. My heart glows for Africa!! Don’t think about it - just book it. You will not regret it. It will change your perspective and give you a deeper appreciation for the people who call Africa home, wildlife and constantly evolving, beautiful landscapes.

The recent trip I did with Intrepid from Nairobi to capetown safari was great. I was mainly camping and I eventually became friends with my tent and was comfortable enough sleeping on the ground. It was a participation trip but hardly onerous. Mainly some food preparation and dishwashing and setting up and breaking camp. With everyone helping it was quite easy. The Parks and animals were amazing. Jambo!

To travel camping with a diverse group of people I thought would be challenging. (Having never camped before!). Not at all! The trip through so many countries - mostly desert - was dusty and challenging over rough terrain, but the reasons for doing so made it SO worthwhile! I could never have organised a trip that covered so many exciting opportunities to view animals in their natural habitat - meet indigenous peoples telling us of their struggles and lives and sharing with us their heritage and culture. The mixing of nationalities and ages of the travellers was very varied, but all of it would not have been so good without the pure professionalise of the leader and his crew. Each day they made sure we were fed and watered … really well. Driven safely and competently over sometimes very challenging terrain! All this backed up by a leader who ensured we were well Informed, had answers to our (hundreds!) of questions and professionally guided us through borders, check points, on and off boats. All the time making sure we laughed and enjoyed the trip! Thanks for the journey!

The Kenya to Cape Town trip is simply sensational! Camping and trucking with Intrepid is a safe and exciting way to experience the best of east and southern Africa. The reward for selecting this trip is the pleasure of seeing endless wildlife and stunning scenery. Each location provides a distinctive experience - it really is a journey of a lifetime! I recommend going southbound, since the adventure becomes easier and the groups are usually smaller.
