Trip Informations
Journey through Central Europe and Romania on this 24-day adventure. Travel to Austria and immerse yourself in its rich musical heritage, learn about Polish traditions as you explore Krakow’s Old Town and hike Slovakia's Tatra Mountains. Wander through the Baroque churches of Budapest, see the haunted castles of Transylvania and indulge in a wine cellar tour in the Valley of the Beautiful Women. Spend a night with a local family in Viscri and see Bucharest's 12-storey Palace of Parliament. From Vienna to Bucharest this trip showcases the best of Central Europe while giving you plenty of free time to experience its culture and people in your own way.
Why you’ll love this trip
See the Polish cities of Wroclaw and Krakow, then spend some time reflecting with a visit to nearby Auschwitz.
Immerse yourself in the history, architecture and bohemian vibes of the Czech Republic. Discover the World Heritage-listed town of Cesky Krumlov on a guided tour, then enjoy some free time in Prague.
Hike the Tatra Mountains and traverse steep slopes by funicular, gondola and electric steam train.
Sample Hungarian ‘Bull’s Blood’ in Eger – the wine said to have given the Hungarian army supernatural strength during their battle against the Ottoman Empire.
Hear spooky tales as you travel through Transylvania and explore its medieval fortified churches, birthplace of the inspiration for the world’s most famous vampire, Dracula.
Is this trip right for you?
Please keep your luggage as small and light as possible. You'll be travelling on public transport where storage space is limited. You'll need to be able to lift your luggage into storage racks, walk across cobblestone streets with it and carry it up and down stairs.
Sections of this trip will be travelled by train. Train travel is a fast way to traverse long distances, allowing you to avoid traffic jams and arrive right into the city centre. Trains are comfortable and often decked out with air-conditioning, toilets, a snack bar (or vending machine) and power points.
Summer temperatures can be extreme in many of the regions visited (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.
Hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together.
This trip is designed to give you a fair amount of free time so you can explore each destination at your own pace. We will, however, take you on regular orientation walks, so you'll be on your feet quite a lot. While this may be tiring for some, it’s the best way to get your head around a place and to set yourself up for further discoveries.
