Trip Informations
Discover a deeper side of Jordan on a journey from Amman to Wadi Rum. Explore the country's famous highlights, including the UNESCO World Heritage site of Petra, the Dead Sea and Wadi Rum, while also spending time in lesser-visited regions such as Umm Qais, Ajloun, and Pella. Along the way, meet local beekeepers, shepherds, cheesemakers and artisans, gain insight into Jordanian culture through community-based experiences, and stay in a collection of character-filled properties, from guesthouses and forest cabins to desert camps. This is Jordan beyond the guidebook – combining iconic landscapes with meaningful local connections.
Why you’ll love this trip
Go beyond Jordan's famous highlights and discover a more local side of the country through community-led experiences in Umm Qais, Ajloun and Pella, where you'll meet beekeepers, artisans, shepherds and cheesemakers.
Enter Petra via the lesser-visited, back-door trail from Little Petra, then continue through one of the world's most remarkable archaeological sites.
Spend two nights amid Wadi Rum's dramatic desert scenery, exploring by 4WD, learning traditional Bedouin breadmaking techniques and discovering the desert night sky on a guided stargazing experience.
Meet Jordan's first female marine ranger in Aqaba and hear her story while learning about the work being done to protect the Red Sea's fragile ecosystems.
Slow down and soak up the unique landscapes of Jordan with leisure time to float in the Dead Sea, relax by the Red Sea in Aqaba and wander through the forested hills of Ajloun.
Is this trip right for you?
Some of the best scenery in Petra and Wadi Rum is found on hikes. While this trip doesn't require a high level of fitness, it's essential to be at least moderately fit if you want to participate in all activities.
There is no shade at most of the historical sites in Jordan. Bring a hat, sun protection, and sturdy, comfortable walking shoes. Winters can get quite cool, so if you're visiting at this time, don't forget to pack some warmer layers, too.
In Wadi Rum, you'll stay in a permanent tented camp with shared bathroom facilities. While the desert may be very hot during the day, it will still be cold at night. Warm clothes are highly recommended when travelling outside of the summer months.
Ramadan is an annual month-long festival, during which travel can be a rewarding cultural experience. However, some regular services may not be available during the day, such as restaurants or cafes, and occasionally travel can be disrupted by events. Your leader will adjust the itinerary accordingly, but please consider this when selecting your travel dates. You'll find dates and further information in the 'Climate and seasonal information' section of the Essential Trip Information.
