Trip Informations
Journey through Jordan and Egypt and see not one but two of the Seven Wonders of the World – now this is a trip for the bucket list! Wander the ancient city of Petra and be greeted by warm Bedouin hospitality at a Wadi Rum desert camp. Gaze at the grandeur of the pyramids and watch rural Egyptian life pass you by on a cruise down the Nile. Customise your adventure with the help of your expert local leader – you might find yourself snorkelling in the Red Sea or visiting the legendary St Catherine’s Monastery at Mt Sinai. Then, explore Cairo, Luxor, Alexandria and coastal Hurghada. Looking for unforgettable experiences? This is the trip for you.
Why you’ll love this trip
Set sail on one of the world’s most iconic rivers with an included felucca trip down the Nile. Relax and soak up the landscapes as scenes of everyday Egyptian life pass you by.
Spend a whole day exploring UNESCO World Heritage-listed Petra in Jordan, plus witness the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx in Cairo.
Bask in the old-world atmosphere of Aswan and experience not only the warmth and charm of Nubian hospitality but also some delicious traditional cuisine at a local homestay.
Join Bedouin locals at a desert camp in Wadi Rum for a night of traditional hospitality, good food and starry skies. You’ll learn about the Bedouin way of life and fall asleep to the silence of the desert.
Choose from optional activities including a Red Sea snorkelling adventure in Hurghada and a visit to the legendary St Catherine’s Monastery at the foot of Mt Sinai. Your expert local leader will be on hand with all the best suggestions to make this adventure your own.
Is this trip right for you?
The desert camp in Wadi Rum and the Nile felucca cruise both feature basic accommodation in incredibly memorable settings.
Accommodation aboard the overnight train is in two-berth cabins which convert to bunk beds. Please see the itinerary for more details on accommodation styles and facilities.
The walkways around ruins can be uneven, dusty and rocky, so be sure to bring sturdy, comfortable walking shoes. At major sites such as the Pyramids of Giza, you can expect to be exposed to the elements at length, so be prepared with a hat, sunscreen and plenty of fluids.
There is quite a bit of walking involved in visiting Jordan's historic sites, especially in Petra and Wadi Rum, so a reasonable level of fitness is required.
You'll need to be an experienced hiker to do the optional sunrise hike to the summit of Mt Sinai. You'll need to bring a head torch with you as you'll be hiking uphill in the dark.
Some hotels in Egypt may not have lifts, so on occasion you may need to climb stairs with your luggage to reach your room.
The temperatures in Egypt and Jordan can reach all extremes. Please familiarise yourself with what kind of weather to expect in the season you wish to travel.
The Aqaba to Taba ferry travels across the Gulf of Aqaba. It is a long travel day, but is the easiest way to travel between the two destinations. Your leader in Jordan will assist you until you reach the Aqaba port and you will be greeted by your new leader once you've crossed the border in Egypt. If you experience sea sickness, please take appropriate precautions for the journey. This journey can often be held up due to scheduling or weather conditions.
This is a great overland journey from Jordan to Egypt. There are a couple of long travel days, so these are great chances for you to dig into a great book, a podcast or some middle eastern music.
The day-to-day itinerary features a selection of optional activities. Please note that this list is not exhaustive and is intended only as a guide. The total price for optional activities, including transportation and local guides (where applicable) has been listed wherever possible. Prices are approximate and may change at the discretion of the local provider. All activities are subject to availability, and some activities require minimum numbers to operate. If you prefer to do your own thing, taxis are available and your leader can assist in organising.

This trip is one NOT TO MISS! Jordan was incredible and exceeded my expectations! We actually wished to stay longer! While Egypt was mind blowing! If you enjoy site seeing while also enjoying exceptional views then this trip is for you! Not once did my group feel uncomfortable or unsafe as the guides were exceptional! Just prepare a good tipping kitty as Egypt has a big tipping culture… not expensive by western standards at all but it’s still something to be aware of :)

I recently completed an incredible Intrepid trip through Jordan, and it exceeded all expectations. Floating in the Dead Sea was a surreal experience, and visiting Petra was simply breathtaking—the walk through the Siq, followed by the first glimpse of the Treasury, was unforgettable. Wadi Rum was another highlight; sleeping under the stars in the desert and exploring the dramatic landscapes made it feel like another world. One thing I really appreciated was the onboard Wi-Fi on the bus. It allowed me to stay connected with family and update social media without using my own data, so I could focus fully on the day’s adventures. It also made the longer drives enjoyable, whether catching up on messages or sharing trip highlights in real time. Overall, this trip was well-organized, full of adventure, and an amazing way to experience Jordan. Highly recommend!

This was a pretty good trip. It's basic level so don't expect champaign quality on a beer price. There were a couple of things that were not intrepids fault such as the ferry from Akaba to Neuweba being canceled. But it was a pretty good tour overall.
