Trip Informations
Get to know Indonesia from another perspective on this 14-day adventure from Jakarta to Ubud. Discover both the current capital and cultural capital in Jakarta and Yogyakarta, eat your way through Bandung, hike up Mt Bromo for epic views over the countryside, meander through the lush jungles of Seloliman Nature Reserve and cross the ditch to the north coast of Bali, with plenty of time to chill out on the sandy shores of Permuteran. This journey takes you from city to coast, jungle to market and temple to mountain, so take the plunge and get to know some of Indonesia’s hotspots the authentic way.
Why you’ll love this trip
Cycle through the backcountry of Yogyakarta – a world of flower-studded fields and friendly locals, this cultural centre is one of South East Asia’s standouts.
Take a guided walk through the jungle and rice paddies of Seloliman Nature Reserve, then sit back, relax and soak up the ambience under the stars in a local guest house.
Climb Mt Bromo in the early hours of the morning. If the conditions are right, you'll be rewarded with a dazzling view over mist-laden volcanoes.
Explore Bandung – a city of contrasts – and feast on delicious street food in this unofficial food capital. Hike around volcanic craters, walk among local tea plantations and visit a tea factory to learn all about Indonesian tea.
Balance out all of the activity and adventure with plenty of time to chill out away from the crowds at beachside paradise of Pemuteran on Bali’s less-visited north coast.
Is this trip right for you?
Java is one of the largest islands in Indonesia, and this trip covers a lot of ground. Travel times can be long, and delays are common. Where suitable, you'll travel by train instead of drive, which will make the journey more comfortable. Please read the itinerary carefully for travel time estimates.
It's important not to make your bags too heavy, as you will be expected to carry them onto and off trains, and walk them short distances. Porters are available in most stations at an extra charge.
This trip involves a fair amount of hiking and cycling. A good level of fitness will help you to get the most out of this trip. Please ensure you bring sturdy walking shoes and comfortable clothes.
Part of travelling with Tuuur means respecting local cultures and sensibilities. That way you get the most out of your interactions with local people and environments. Dress standards in Java are more conservative than in other areas of Indonesia. Show your respect by covering your knees and shoulders when visiting temples. It's a great idea to bring your own sarong or purchase one on your way.
Accommodation at Seloliman Nature Reserve and near Mt Bromo is in basic guesthouses. Set on the edge of a tropical forest the Seloliman Reserve embraces philosophies of environmental education, and we are sure you will get a good night’s sleep.
This trip is a great way to see a lot in a short period of time and it can be part of a longer itinerary if you have more time to explore. You might like to check out our Best of Indonesia (TISSC) trip.

I had a great time, lots of interesting experiences and places to visit. Maman was our expert leader and did a fine job of being available and supportive without being overly involved. Would recommend!

This was a great introduction to the Indonesia that we (in Australia) are less likely to visit than the typical places. Mt Bromo, especially, was amazing. Overall, a great tour; well-paced with lots of variety.

What a fabulous trip through Java. Having been to other parts of Indonesia for several years, we thought it was time to see what Java had to offer and also Western Bali. We were not disappointed. Our leader "Mochie" was the perfect leader ... bubbly personality and her enthusiasm for every place we went to made for a very positive experience. Our highlights were both volcanoes (although very different), a fabulously authentic cycle through a local village near Yogyakarta and exploring the remarkable temples Borobudur (Buddhist) and Prambanan (Hindu). Be prepared to witness the hectic capital of Jakarta which does not leave you wondering! Western Bali is a contrast from the hustle and bustle of tourist locations in the south of the island. Both islands have so much to offer but overall the charm and warmth of the people is an absolute winner.
