Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Cycle through the backcountry of Yogyakarta – a world of flower-studded fields and friendly locals, this cultural centre is one of South East Asia’s standouts.
Take a guided walk through the jungle and rice paddies of Seloliman Nature Reserve, then sit back, relax and soak up the ambience under the stars in a local guest house.
Climb Mt Bromo in the early hours of the morning. If the conditions are right, you'll be rewarded with a dazzling view over mist-laden volcanoes.
Explore Bandung – a city of contrasts – and feast on delicious street food in this unofficial food capital. Sit down in a 100-year-old café for a local cuppa, hike around volcanic craters, then soak your weary muscles in the hot springs.
Balance out all of the activity and adventure with plenty of time to chill out away from the crowds at beachside paradise of Pemuteran on Bali’s less-visited north coast.
Is this trip right for you?
Java is one of the largest islands in Indonesia, and this trip covers a lot of ground. Travel times can be long, and delays are common. Where suitable, you'll travel by train instead of drive, which will make the journey more comfortable. Please read the itinerary carefully for travel time estimates.
It's important not to make your bags too heavy, as you will be expected to carry them onto and off trains, and walk them short distances. Porters are available in most stations at an extra charge.
This trip involves a fair amount of hiking and cycling. A good level of fitness will help you to get the most out of this trip. Please ensure you bring sturdy walking shoes and comfortable clothes.
Part of travelling with Tuuur means respecting local cultures and sensibilities. That way you get the most out of your interactions with local people and environments. Dress standards in Java are more conservative than in other areas of Indonesia. Show your respect by covering your knees and shoulders when visiting temples. It's a great idea to bring your own sarong or purchase one on your way.
Accommodation at Seloliman Nature Reserve and near Mt Bromo is in basic guesthouses. Set on the edge of a tropical forest the Seloliman Reserve embraces philosophies of environmental education, and we are sure you will get a good night’s sleep.
This trip is a great way to see a lot in a short period of time and it can be part of a longer itinerary if you have more time to explore. You might like to check out our Best of Indonesia (TISSC) trip.

This was my fourth tour with Intrepid Travel and my inaugural visit to Indonesia. I embarked on this dynamic trip as the second part of the 23-day Best of Indonesia tour with the Sumatra Adventure as a thrilling precursor. Following a physically exhilarating 10 days in Sumatra, this journey transformed into an enriching exploration of history, architecture, and culture, with invigorating experiences like the Jeep ride and sunrise hike up Mt. Bromo and cycling through Yogyakarta's countryside, allowing for a deeper connection with nature and surroundings. The trains were impressively clean and comfortable, while the accommodations offered a vibrant blend of hotels, nature-inspired villas, bungalows, and guesthouses, showcasing a dynamic and thriving travel experience. Nova, our outstanding tour guide, exceeded my expectations, ensuring our safety and comfort, and securing reservations for optional activities while sparking a profound connection to each destination. With historical anecdotes, surprise stops for local delicacies, and insider village access, Nova's infectious enthusiasm and humour made him a captivating, down-to-earth, and authentic ambassador for every region we visited. If you're passionate about ecotourism and immersive cultural experiences, savour the flavours of local cuisine (which include heaping plates of rice, noodles and fried foods), and crave meaningful adventures, then this tour is an opportunity you won't want to miss!

This itinerary had a diversity of activities and the train transport made it so comfortable. The length and activities of the trip is perfect to establish a meaningful rapport among travelers that truly enhances any trip. This was our sixth Intrepid trip and one of our best travel experiences.

I’ve traveled extensively, but this was my first tour with Intrepid. The entire experience was so much better than I expected, and my expectations can be quite high. Exciting itinerary, fantastic guide, fun, educational… I strongly recommend.

Fascinating trip visiting some under-explored parts of Java - we hardly saw any other foreign tourists until we got to Bali. Train travel was a highlight - clean, smooth, on time and great views from the windows.

Amazing introduction to Indonesian culture. We had a great leader who was really enthusiastic to give us the best experience we could. Good diverse itinerary with many activities included and reasonably priced optional activities on some days. Highly recommend.

So many interesting and diverse sights and activities are rolled into this one excursion. The big cities offer lots of interesting places, but the rest of the country offers experiences. Riding a bike between rice fields and villages, climbing Mt Bromo and hearing the roar of the active volcano are my two favorites. The many temple visits and the architecture will be a new experience for even the most seasoned traveler. Train journeys offer a unique opportunity to see lots of villages, rice and sugarcane fields and people going about their lives. Don’t forget to look up, the Indonesians love their kites.

The Java Trip with Sherly was amazing, we saw a lot of the country and she leart us a lot about the people and nature. I really like the trip.
