Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Take a daytrip to Perugia’s ancient town of Spello. Walk the winding laneways and cobbled streets, then sample the local wine and regional delicacies at a local enoteca for lunch.
See some iconic sites around Italy – the canals of Venice, Florence’s Duomo and maybe even one of the Seven Wonders of the World in Rome. Find out why these cities are so loved by so many and enjoy plenty of free time to explore at your own pace.
Eat your way through this foodie’s paradise with a tour in Venice and a pesto-making class along the Cinque Terre. With a local leader by your side, you’ll also get the inside scoop on the best gelato, wine and pasta!
Hike along the scenic Cinque Terre with a series of walking paths that connect the pastel villages of Monterosso, Corniglia and Riomaggiore.
Support the local community with a farewell dinner in Trastevere at a local cooperative that trains and employs local people living with disabilities.
Is this trip right for you?
The primary means of transportation on this trip is by train. Italian trains are comfortable, and all have toilets. Due to the destinations visited on this trip, many train journeys are done by local trains.
It’s recommended you pack light and smart for this trip, as you'll be required to carry your own luggage between train and bus stations and hotels, which can include going up and down multiple flights of stairs and across cobblestones.
There are many in-demand, ticketed sites to visit in Florence and Rome. Please review the Itinerary for our recommendations on when you will have time available if you would like to pre-purchase tickets.
Summer temperatures can be extreme in many regions of Italy (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s essential to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Please consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.
A good level of fitness is required on this trip to enjoy the diverse activities and sights on offer, such as walking the trails of Cinque Terre, navigating the bustling streets of big cities like Rome and Florence and managing luggage on and off trains.
Itinerary
Travel from Venice to Florence to uncover Italy's many treasures
Venture through Italy, from the canals of Venice to the cobblestone streets of Rome. On this 10-day trip, you’ll visit historic sites and small villages, indulging in as much food and wine as you can handle. Wander the streets on a cicchetti crawl through canal-laden Venice, hike along the Cinque Terre, filling up your camera roll with incredible scenery, and take a pesto-making class in Cinque Terre. Soak in the coastal colours, then head to Pisa – home to the iconic tilted tower – and explore the rolling hills of picturesque Umbria. Discover Florence’s art, history and culture with plenty of free time to explore at your own pace, and sample local wines, traditional dishes (another gelato anyone?) and as many glasses ofaperol spritz as your heart desires.

Our Italy Experience with Intrepid was brilliant - we didn't just visit places, we ate the regional food, we heard the history and we saw the beautiful sights - heard from local guides passionate about their home and experienced Italy with a great group of fellow tourists. Bellissimo!!

This trip was our first to Italy. The itinerary served as a perfect opportunity to get some insight into the country, the history, culture and language. Our leader, Lisa, was excellent. Because it was focussed on the North, we then toured the south for two additional weeks on our own. Don’t be put off by doing this trip in winter, because even though it was cold the visitor numbers were lower so that was a plus wherever we went. Strongly recommended!

The itinerary is excellent, giving us the opportunity to visit both more touristy and quieter, yet equally interesting, places. The guide demonstrated a great deal of knowledge about all places and gave many tips on food, wine, and places to visit during our stay. She was also always willing to help us with any questions.
