Beginning in Lima, the capital of Peru flanked by Spanish colonial architecture, you’ll journey through the fertile heartland of the Sacred Valley, see the magnificent Ollantaytambo ruins and take on your own trail (the Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or scenic train route) to Machu Picchu – nestled high in the Andes, this is one of the Seven Wonders of the World! End it all in Cusco, a foodie’s paradise and cultural hub of nightlife. This eight-day Peruvian tour gets you closer to the secrets of the elusive civilisation that once resided here.

verified
This is trip spends time at altitude; you should refer to the Medical & Health Information for this trip to understand the risks.
verified
This trip involves a lot of walking to see the sites, and if you trek the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail, there'll be strenuous hiking. The trip is recommended for those with a good level of fitness. Please bring comfortable footwear suitable to hiking. See the ‘Packing’ section of the Essential Trip Information for more detail.
verified
For those who trek the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail, you'll be camping with basic facilities. It's definitely the journey as well as the final destination (Machu Picchu) that makes this way of exploring Peru worthwhile.
verified
According to Machu Picchu visiting regulations all visitors to Machu Picchu must follow a pre-determined circuit within the site as a way to relieve crowding. The circuit-based entrance tickets are available on a first come first serve basis. We will do all that is possible to get everyone traveling in a group on the same route, but be aware that it is possible that members of the same group might be visiting Machu Picchu on a different circuit and not be together during this visit. Once the guided visit concludes, visitors must exit the site and personal exploration of Machu Picchu is not permitted.
verified
Travellers who choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train), will not follow the same routes within Machu Picchu. This means that you may not be able to have photos together, overlooking Machu Picchu. This applies to travellers on the same booking or separate bookings.

I highly recommend this trip as a way to experience Peru. It provides a great balance of time in cities, local communities, and the famous Inca trails. The trail itself is definitely challenging (mostly due to the altitude and some climbs), but Luis our guide did an amazing job making sure we all paced ourselves to get the top, and eventually Machu Picchu, in good shape and good spirits. The trip is also supported by a crew of amazing porters who really make you feel appreciated and cared for along the way. I can't speak more highly of how well-organized and thoughtful everyone managing the trip was, which I'm sure is no small task. This is my second Intrepid trip, and I will absolutely do more because of the great experiences I have had.

Had the best experience doing the Inca trail with Intrepid! The whole team functions like a well oiled machine! From the guides to the porters and chefs, everyone provided excellent service with a smile. The trek was very hard but the accommodations were comfortable, the food was delicious. Tea, coffee and snacks were also provided throughout the day. Even though we got quite a bit of rain throughout the trip, that did not seem to hinder their ability to set up/tear down camp, cook/clean for us and give us a warm welcome when arriving to camp.

I highly recommend this trip to Peru! Bruce was very friendly and knowledgeable and took great care of everyone in the group! The hike to Macchu Picchu was amazing and I enjoyed the side trips as well. My only advice is to pay attention to the prices of souvenirs as they vary greatly!

This was my first trip to South America, and I would not have wanted to travel independently, as I have done in Europe. The local guides were excellent, and the itinerary well planned and the tranportation options appropriate and comfortable. Hotels were basic but comfortable. Machu Picchu and other Inca sites were amazing.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Peru visiting Lima, Cusco and hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. So much so that we are on the Intrepid website looking at holiday options for next Christmas/ New Year. Vladimir and Bruce (our leaders) along with the porters and our fellow travellers made the trip so worthwhile and we felt a major sense of accomplishment.
