Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Explore Cusco – South America's oldest continuously inhabited city. The city has ancient foundations, an interesting blend of Incan and international influences, and seemingly endless things to do and see.
Adjust to the altitude with a cheeky pisco sour and maybe some ceviche – what better way to adjust to the heights than getting to know the local Peruvian cuisine?
Travel through the Sacred Valley, known for its steep and soaring scenery, its mystical significance for the Inca and the Indigenous cultures that still reside here.
Explore the greatest icon of ancient South America and one of the Seven Wonders of the World – Machu Picchu – on a guided tour.
Experience the untouched, evergreen splendour of the Amazon Jungle. Explore rainforest trails with a local guide, looking out for monkeys, parrots and medicinal plants, then fall asleep in a lodge lit by candles and kerosene lamps.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip visits places that are at high altitude, and as a result some people can suffer from altitude sickness, regardless of age or physical health. Please see the Medical and health information section of the Essential Trip Information for more detail.
This trip involves a lot of walking to see the sites, and if you trek the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail, there'll be strenuous hiking. The trip is recommended for those with a good level of fitness. Please bring comfortable footwear suitable to hiking. See the ‘Packing’ section of the Essential Trip Information for more detail.
For those who trek the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail, you'll be camping with basic facilities. It's definitely the journey as well as the final destination (Machu Picchu) that makes this way of exploring Peru worthwhile.
According to Machu Picchu visiting regulations all visitors to Machu Picchu must follow a pre-determined circuit within the site as a way to relieve crowding. The circuit-based entrance tickets are available on a first come first serve basis. We will do all that is possible to get everyone traveling in a group on the same route, but be aware that it is possible that members of the same group might be visiting Machu Picchu on a different circuit and not be together during this visit. Once the guided visit concludes, visitors must exit the site and personal exploration of Machu Picchu is not permitted.
Travellers who choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train), will not follow the same routes within Machu Picchu. This means that you may not be able to have photos together, overlooking Machu Picchu. This applies to travellers on the same booking or separate bookings.
Temperatures in the Amazon can fluctuate from daytime humidity to night-time chill. Insects, especially mosquitoes, are common. We recommend tropical-strength insect repellent and light cotton clothing that covers your arms and legs, with warmer layers for the evening.

or travel to Machu Picchu by train.
2. Full passport details are required at the time of booking. These details must match the passport you will travel on. Mismatched details can lead to refusal of entry by the Inca authorities. Delays in providing this information may result in booking fees or changes to your itinerary.
3. We will request an Inca Trail permit for you unless, at time of booking, you advise us that you wish to hike the Quarry Trail or take the train. Fees may apply to changes made after the time of booking, and availability on other options cannot be guaranteed.
4. A single supplement is available if you’d prefer not to share a room on this trip. The single supplement excludes Days 9 & 10 (Amazon Jungle) where you will be in shared accommodation and is subject to availability. Please speak to your booking agent for further information.

7. According to Machu Picchu visiting regulations all visitors must follow a pre-determined circuit within the site as a way to relieve crowding. The circuit-based entrance tickets are available on a first come first serve basis. For travellers who opted for the Quarry Trail and Train options we will endeavour to get everyone traveling in a group on the same circuit. Regardless of the circuit you will enjoy the beauty and grandeur of the site. Travellers completing the Inca Trail will enter Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate with a guided tour taking place on circuit 5.
8. As you can choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train), you may be joined by other Tuuur and/or non-Tuuur travellers. There is also a small chance you may be the only traveller from your group on your selected option.

There were many memorable moments on our trip to Peru and we are very pleased that we chose this destination. Our guides were very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Each guide gave a an appreciation of people of Peru, their culture and customs. Contact with a group of quechua families in the Sacred Valley was very instructive and we had fun dressing up as a local and observing the process of weaving such intricate designs. As a group of seven travellers, for parts of the trip, we enjoyed each other’s company. We were very privileged to have spectacular weather for our morning at Machu Picchu, a very sacred city, surrounded by beauty. For us the jungle portion of the trip was our introduction to a completely different environment and it did not disappoint with lots of animal sightings from the motorized canoe or the paddle around a lake with giant river otters, birds, butterflies and piranha. The eco lodge was incredibly peaceful and a lovely way to end our trip with Intrepid.

This trip to Peru was amazing- Machu Picchu needs to be seen in person- photos do not do it justice. Our guide Beto was so knowledgeable and obviously loves his country and its culture. It makes me want to go back to see and learn even more!

Quarry trail a treat. Fantastic hike- astounding vistas, dramatic landscape, challenging but manageable for us +70’s, awesome guide, comfortable camping experience with surprisingly thoughtful extras like hot tea and washing water delivered to the tent in the morning. Superb guide ( Philippe) with exceptional understanding of hikers individual needs, a warm personality and a find of fascinating stories about Peru and many aspects of its culture, people and history. It was a treat to spend 3 days with him. Great food.

Intrepid is totally professional. The accommodation, food, transport and most importantly the staff are all first rate. They put safety first and support clients to achieve their goals. I’m in my mid 70s. I needed a company I could trust to provide the support I needed, yet the challenges I wanted. Intrepid did this so well

Our guide Marcia was incredible—warm, knowledgeable, and inspiring. She brought the sites and history to life with passion and care. Visiting the Quechuan Community was deeply moving, and the support for local people was clear. This experience was heart-opening, enriching, and beautifully organised. A journey I’ll never forget.
