Trip Informations
Travel from the heady heights of the Andes to the exotic lowlands of the Amazon on this journey through the best of Peru. Get acquainted with the charm and grace of historic towns before hiking along ancient pathways to Machu Picchu and discovering the heart and soul of the Inca Empire. Then eyeball exotic plant and wildlife in the world's most remarkable jungle. From vibrant cities to glorious natural wonders, this trip shows you all corners of Peru.
Why you’ll love this trip
Explore Cusco, South America's oldest continuously inhabited city. The city has ancient foundations, an interesting blend of Incan and colonial influences, and seemingly endless things to do and see.
Adjust to the altitude with a pisco sour and some ceviche to get to know Peruvian cuisine.
Travel through the Sacred Valley – known for its steep and soaring scenery, its mystical significance for the Inca and the indigenous cultures that still reside here.
Explore the greatest icon of ancient South America and one of the Seven Wonders of the world – Machu Picchu – on a guided tour.
Experience the untouched, evergreen splendour of the Amazon Jungle. Explore rainforest trails with a local guide, looking out for monkeys, parrots and medicinal plants, then fall asleep in a lodge lit by candles and kerosene lamps.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip visits places that are at high altitude, and as a result some people can suffer from altitude sickness, regardless of age or physical health. Please see the Medical and health information section of the Essential Trip Information for more detail.
This trip involves a lot of walking to see the sites, and if you trek the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail, there'll be strenuous hiking. The trip is recommended for those with a good level of fitness. Please bring comfortable footwear suitable to hiking. See the ‘Packing’ section of the Essential Trip Information for more detail.
For those who trek the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail, you'll be camping with basic facilities. It's definitely the journey as well as the final destination (Machu Picchu) that makes this way of exploring Peru worthwhile.
According to Machu Picchu visiting regulations, all visitors must follow a pre-determined route within the site. This route must be followed in one direction only, and once the guided visit commences exiting and re-entering the site is not permitted. Once the guided visit concludes, visitors must exit the site and personal exploration of Machu Picchu is not permitted. Please refer to the Itinerary for details.
Travellers who choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train), will not follow the same routes within Machu Picchu. This means that you may not be able to have photos together, overlooking Machu Picchu. This applies to travellers on the same booking or separate bookings.
Temperatures in the Amazon can fluctuate from daytime humidity to night-time chill. Insects, especially mosquitoes, are common. We recommend tropical-strength insect repellent and light cotton clothing that covers your arms and legs, with warmer layers for the evening.

Inca trail permits are limited and it's important to book well in advance, read more about it here:

Important notes
1. Full passport details are required at the time of booking. The passport you travel with must match the booking details provided to us. This will be used to apply for your Inca permit and if any info doesn’t match your passport, the Inca authorities will refuse your entry. Delays in providing this information may result in booking fees or changes to your itinerary.
2. A single supplement is available if you’d prefer not to share a room on this trip. The single supplement excludes Days 9 & 10 (Amazon Jungle) where you will be in shared accommodation and is subject to availability. Please speak to your booking agent for further information.
3. This trip starts in Lima on Day 1 at 2pm. This allows time after the welcome meeting to explore Lima.
4. At the time of booking, please advise whether you would like to hike the classic Inca Trail, Inca Quarry Trail or take the train. When available, the Inca Trail will be booked as the default option. Fees may apply to changes made after the time of booking, and availability on other options cannot be guaranteed.

or travel to Machu Picchu by train.
6. The Inca Trail closes in February to allow cleaning and restoration works. If the trek portion of your trip starts in February, you will be automatically booked to hike the Quarry Trail.
7. As you can choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train), you may be joined by other Tuuur and/or non-Tuuur travellers. There is also a small chance you may be the only traveller from your group on your selected option.

Intrepid took great care of our group of 4 travellers through Peru , Machu Pitchu and the Amazon trip . The Guides on all elements of our trip were attentive to our needs and we would highly recommend this trip to anyone. Perhaps practise some big hills beforehand 🤣

Excellent trip. I did inca trail option which is a challenging treck with a lot of stairs. You will have a ton of food, amazing porters taking care of you, and beautiful views. Many different climates and altitudes on this trip.

I have been wanting to go on an Intrepid tour for many years - they did not disappoint! Everything about this trip was perfecto! It was so well organised and everything went like clockwork. All the tour guides were professional and friendly - from Alina in Lima, Norma in Cusco, Edwin on the Inca Trail and Hugo in the Amazon. The Inca trail porters, chefs and all the crew were amazing. The food was plentiful, healthy and delicious. All the accommodation was clean and comfortable - including the tents on the trail. There were so many moving components of this tour (flights, buses, different tour guides), yet it all fell together seamlessly. It's a 10/10 for me :)

This was a trip of a lifetime! The history, culture and nature all packaged into 1 trip was truly epic. My favourite was the Quarry trail hike with Juan Manuel and the team, we were lucky and were the only people on the trail for 3 days. The cook was absolutely amazing and I couldn't believe the amazing 3 course meals he prepared each day. I highly recommend this trip, it is epic!

My husband and I enjoyed this trip immensely. There were families with teens, solo travellers, parents and adult children. It catered well for everyone. Our first trip of this type and enjoyed immensely. We will definitely come back to intrepid for more.
