Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Marvel at the incredible Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, a moment you’ll truly never forget – enjoy a guided tour around the ruins of temples, palaces and living quarters.
Experience the wild world of the Amazon rainforest. Stroll along jungle trails on the lookout for monkeys, parrots, otters and caiman, and sleep in a nature lodge lit by candles and kerosene lamps.
Treat yourself to freshly made coffee and cakes at a local restaurant in the Sacred Valley that’s empowering community growth and providing job opportunities and training for single mothers from the region.
Get to know the locals of the Huilloq community in the Sacred Valley, learn from them, discover their ancestral textile techniques, join an offering to Pachamama and then sit down for a special lunch together.
Choose your own adventure on your way to the magnificent Machu Picchu – hike the Inca Trail, traverse the Quarry Trail or enjoy a few days in Cusco before taking the train to Aguas Calientes.
At Intrepid, we’ve always been about balancing profit and purpose and as the largest B Corp certified operator on the Inca Trail, we’re committed to operating our treks for the benefit of all – join us and help make the world a better place.
Is this trip right for you?
Parts of your trip go above 2800m/9200ft where it is common for travellers to experience some adverse health effects due to the altitude - regardless of your age, gender and fitness. Please see the ‘Medical and Health Information’ section of the Essential Trip Information for more detail.
The Amazon Jungle can be very hot and humid, so it's important to drink plenty of water and wear light cotton clothing. Make sure you also bring tropical-strength insect repellent.
Visitors are not permitted to explore Machu Picchu without a Machu Picchu guide (not our trip leaders) and must follow set routes within the site. This trip includes one guided visit of Machu Picchu (approximately 1.5 - 2 hours). Your leader will provide more information to ensure you get the most out of your visit to this incredible site.
If you choose to trek the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail there'll be strenuous hiking and you’ll be camping with basic facilities during the hiking section of the itinerary. This option is recommended for those with a good level of fitness. See the ‘Packing’ section of the Essential Trip Information for more detail on specific clothing and equipment requirements.
Travellers who choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train), will not follow the same routes within Machu Picchu. This means that you may not be able to have photos together, overlooking Machu Picchu. This applies to travellers on the same booking or separate bookings.
As you can choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train) it is possible you will be the only traveller on your selected option. An Tuuur leader or local guide is assigned to and accompanies travellers on each option.
According to Machu Picchu visiting regulations all visitors to Machu Picchu must follow a pre-determined circuit within the site as a way to relieve crowding. The circuit-based entrance tickets are available on a first come first serve basis. We will do all that is possible to get everyone traveling in a group on the same route, but be aware that it is possible that members of the same group might be visiting Machu Picchu on a different circuit and not be together during this visit. Once the guided visit concludes, visitors must exit the site and personal exploration of Machu Picchu is not permitted.

An incredible itinerary. The Amazon was really special. Bring a head net for comfort and lock away food and natural soaps or you'll have visitors! Highly recommend adding the One Day Inca Hike for the free day in Cusco for a taste of the Inca trail (with no camping) - you'll meet the Machu Pichhu llamas! Muchas gracias Carlos!

A superb trip. What a privilege to be in the Amazon. Machu Pichhu was spectacular, as was the Sacred Valley. Loved lunch with the Indigenous Quechua Community and learning how they make stunning textiles. Bought lots in Cusco!

Carlos L. was a phenomenal tour guide. The depth and breath of his knowledge about the places we visited made this experience unforgettable. He brought history to life with his passion for his country and provided so much fascinating information. He created an engaging tour which will be a bar that will be difficult for others to beat in the future. He also readily and easily accommodated all of the unique needs of the group with grace and compassion. I am grateful that Carlos was our guide for this spectacular adventure!

Inca Encounter: What an incredible trip which went beyond my expectations! The whole trip was very well organised with great accommodation. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their areas of expertise- Edison in the Amazon jungle (which was magical), and our leader Carmen at the Inca sites. I chose the train option to Machu Picchu which was stunning, and used the extra free time to visit Palcoyo (3 Rainbow mountains) and Pisac - both amazing!

If you book this trip, try to get Beto. He has done the trail over 300 times! His experience was essential to our success. He was very patient when things got alittle trying . I’m 66 and my wife is 65, you can do it!!! But hedge your bets with Beto!!!
