Trip Informations
Explore Iceland’s rugged landscapes as you hike the Laugavegur Trail from Landmannalaugar to Thorsmork. See the rainbow-coloured mountains, black sand deserts and birch forests and stay in cosy mountain huts along the way. Soak in nearby geothermal hot springs, indulge in traditional Icelandic cuisine and, depending on the weather, maybe set off along the Makarfljotsgljufur Canyon for panoramic views of the neighbouring icecaps.
Why you’ll love this trip
Hike the iconic Laugavegur Trail as you learn about the region’s history and distinct landscape from your local leader.
Explore Icelandic countryside, valleys, natural geothermal features and lava fields as you walk through the Fjallabak Nature Reserve.
Taste the region’s local produce during lunch at Landmannalaugar, then indulge in a traditional Icelandic dinner including mountain lamb or fish and lots of potatoes.
Make the most of your free time – get to know the local way of life with a soak in the Laugardalslaug Geothermal Pool or learn about the history of Iceland at the National Museum.
Relax in your cosy hut accommodation along the Laugavegur Trail. Put your feet up each night and take in the surrounding views of icecaps, moss-covered hills and basaltic columns.
Is this trip right for you?
In June and July, it doesn’t get dark in Iceland, so make sure to bring an eye mask and earplugs.
Please be pack and be prepared for all weather conditions. The weather can be relatively harsh (very windy, cold and rainy usually mixed with some sunshine and calm conditions as well).
The trail huts are communal and have dorm-style sleeping arrangements. Amenities range from hut to hut and at most include hot water, showers or electricity.

I had an absolutely unforgettable time on this trip! Our guide, Mike, brought Iceland’s geography and dramatic landscapes to life with his deep knowledge and engaging explanations. Each evening, he clearly outlined what we could look forward to the next day, and throughout the journey, he was kind, patient, attentive, and always ready to help. Mike is also an exceptional cook! After each rewarding day on the trail, we looked forward to his delicious homemade dinners and desserts. Those memorable meals were the perfect way to relax, refuel, and end the day. I can’t recommend this hiking trip highly enough. From thundering waterfalls and sweeping valleys to breathtaking volcanic landscapes, every day revealed another unforgettable view. Somewhere along the way, I completely fell in love with Iceland. Before this trip, Iceland was simply a bucket list destination to check off; now, I’m already dreaming of returning again and again to discover more of this extraordinary country!

I had an absolute blast on this trip! Our tour guide, Mike, was incredibly knowledgeable about Iceland’s geography and landscapes and did such a great job explaining everything along the way. He always gave us a debrief each night about what to expect the next day, and he was incredibly kind and patient throughout the trip. And he’s also an amazing cook! He made some of the best dinners and desserts, which was definitely a bonus after a long day of hiking. I highly recommend this hiking trip. I got to see so many incredible landscapes and waterfalls, and somewhere along the way, I completely fell in love with Iceland. Before this trip, Iceland was just a bucket list destination I wanted to check off. Now, I already know I’ll want to come back again and again to explore more of this beautiful country!!

Our hiking trip was amazingly beautiful. Our guide Mike was informative, knowledgeable, a great cook and an all around great guy. I would highly recommend requesting him for this trip as he is a geographer and has lots of information on the glaciers, volcanoes and rock formations to pass along. He also was nearby if there were any areas one felt slightly uncomfortable with. He also cooks a great lamb stew!
