Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
This tour is perfect for those who are after an express jaunt around to Iceland’s hotspots. See the wonders including the Golden Circle, southern Vik, and Jokulsarlon’s glacial lagoon.
Explore Reynisfjara, the famous beach where black sand meets towering basalt columns and rocky cliffs where seabirds rest.
Spend time exploring Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, perhaps walking along nearby Diamond Beach where chunks of icebergs wash up on the black sand, or opting for a lagoon cruising experience.
Stand at the bottom of Skogafoss – a waterfall with a 60-metre cascade – then hike along a winding wooden staircase to the fall’s crest for views of the coastline.
Spend the night in a local guesthouse that is leading the way in sustainable Icelandic tourism, with the chance to give back to the environment by planting trees to combat deforestation and soil erosion.
By travelling on this trip, you’ll learn about our Tuuur Foundation partner, SEA LIFE TRUST Beluga Whale Sanctuary in the Westman Islands. Donations help them in their work with rescuing local puffins as well as rehabilitation of these and two rescued beluga whales, which were previously performing in captivity in an aquarium in Shanghai. Tuuur will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Tuuur Foundation.
Is this trip right for you?
Iceland can be cold throughout the year, especially between November and April. Please bring appropriate clothing for adverse weather conditions. There may be the rare occasion where your leader has to alter the itinerary and activities due to the weather. In this case an alternative will be offered.
Due to the remote locations we visit, there are a few long drives on this trip. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the scenery and spend some time getting to know the other members of your group. On this trip we are travelling in our own private minibus with complimentary wi-fi.
As accommodation on this trip is twin and multishare, single travellers will share a room with other travellers of the same gender. Twin-share, quad-share and multishare bunk accommodation may be used depending on the season and the make-up of the group. Please also be aware that many guesthouses in Iceland offer shared bathrooms rather than ensuite facilities. Rooms in Iceland can be small, and at times you may be accommodated a short walk away from the main building.

The trip is ideal for getting a first impression of the island's diversity. We were a small group, and Stefan, our tour guide, filled in the gaps between stops with stories and information about the country, many waterfalls along the way, and our Playlist :) You shouldn't miss the optional glacier hike. There are plenty of places to eat along the way, including supermarkets. No need to go shopping beforehand.

The trip’s itinerary was expertly curated and organized, with plenty of opportunities to experience the beautiful scenery, culture, and cuisine of Iceland. Every spot we visited was a highlight and a must-see. A major enhancement to the trip was our tour guide, Thor. His love for his country and his willingness to share that with us benefited our travels immensely. It was also really cool to befriend a group of 10+ other travelers from around the world and explore alongside them. My experience was outstanding and I am so thankful to Intrepid for their hand in what is going to be one of my most cherished memories.

This trip and our leader, Thor, were phenomenal! A short week but truly packed with wonderful activities - both scenic and cultural. Highly recommend for anyone's first time (and future trips) to such a beautiful country, you see and explore so much!

Iceland was originally just going to be a fill-in stop on my overseas trip. But oh my god....the landscapes, glacier walks, icebergs, geysers, the Northern Lights. And that was just a 5-day tour in the south of the country. I have plans to go back and see more because.....oh my god.

My third trip with Intrepid and it was just as reliable as before while also having its stark differences! This was a shorter trip than my last two and was more road trip themed, but it was still enjoyable in it's own way! The long journeys were very well broken up with visits to so so many scenic and awe-inspiring landscapes that really made you appreciate the power of planet we live on! From the Glacier Hike, Geysers, tremendous waterfalls and the black sand beach to the last minute luck of viewing the Northern lights from our accommodation balcony 4 hrs before our bus back to the airport, this will be a trip to remember forever!

Thank you for an unforgettable trip to the land of fire and ice, where rainbows and waterfalls abound. We had a fantastic guide, with incredible folklore stories and deep knowledge of Iceland's history that made this experience even more special. I’m so grateful to have been part of this tour group, and witnessing the northern lights the last night was the perfect way to end this magical journey!
