Trip Informations
Travel to Iceland and delve into the ancient tales of Vikings and volcanoes on this eight-day adventure to its heartlands. Marvel at geothermal hot springs, witness the steamy eruptions of a giant geyser, touch the tongue of Europe's biggest glacier at Vatnajokull and cruise the Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon. See lava that's still warm after decades and witness the giant Skogafoss and Detifoss waterfalls in all their splendour. Travel through Iceland's isolated corners and the land of the famous Blue Lagoon – so ethereal, they’ve inspired artists, poets and musicians for centuries. Plus, with a local leader on hand to answer any questions and get you from place to place, you’ll be cruising around this icy isle in no time!
Why you’ll love this trip
verified
Discover there’s a lot more to Iceland than ice (and Bjork). Ford the fjords, glaciers, volcanoes and black sand beaches, and maybe consider adding on a visit to the renowned Blue Lagoon for a soak in the geothermal springs.
verified
Spend the evening in the farm town of Modrudalur – an isolated settlement and the highest inhabited place in Iceland – and enjoy a home-cooked dinner at your guesthouse at Snaefellsnes.
verified
Walk to the mottled blue, grey and black tongue of Vatnajokull glacier – an ice cap so large it covers eight per cent of the country – and discover the incredible Skogafoss Waterfall.
verified
Glide past blue-white icebergs on an included boat tour of Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon and soak up the silence of the surrounding grey sand desert.
verified
Experience the unearthly scenery at Namaskard, where steam rises from the sulphuric terrain, and take a walk around the lava stacks and caves of Dimmuborgir.
Is this trip right for you?
verified
A remote location and high-performing currency are just two reasons Iceland can be an expensive destination. This affects things like museum entrance fees and outdoor activities, but is especially noticeable when eating out. Your leader will be able to advise on how to save money, but in remote areas the only option for dinner will be at the guesthouse we are staying at. Please stock up on food at a supermarket prior to arrival if you would like to opt out eating at the guesthouse's restaurant.
verified
The extremity of the weather makes for incredible scenery, but it also means Iceland can be very cold, especially at the start and end of the season and at night. Please bring appropriate clothing for adverse weather conditions. On the rare occasions your leader must alter the itinerary due to the weather which can cause roads being blocked, sites closure etc. Your leader will discuss the necessary changes and alternatives where possible.
verified
In order to access what’s off the beaten track, a few long drives are in order. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the scenery and spend some time getting to know the other members of your group.
verified
The facilities will be shared in some of the guest houses that you stay on this trip.

Here’s a version with more emphasis on Iceland itself:
An unforgettable journey through the land of fire and ice. From glaciers, volcanoes, waterfalls and geothermal wonders to black sand beaches and ice lagoons, every day was breathtaking. The itinerary was superb, our guide was outstanding, and the small group experience made it even more memorable. Highly recommended!

Excellent introduction to Iceland, its sights, sounds and culture. Plenty of waterfalls, glaciers, lava fields, fjords on the trip. Highlight was the glacier walk and puffin sightings. Gisli is an excellent guide and leader with a daily 'foss of the day' viewings.

As a solo traveler to Iceland, I was in two minds as to how best to make the most of my limited time there. Very quickly I realised I had made the right decision by choosing the Iceland Discovery trip. Our guide was brilliant, small group size a plus, the various sites fascinating and diverse and the accommodation sufficient.

We had a beautiful trip around Iceland and visited the main cities and attractions. Iceland has a lot to offer with many scenic routes and beautiful landscapes. Margaret our leader went out of her way to make sure everyone in the group had a good time. Someone in the group wanted to see puffins so she made sure she took to a place where this was possible. I wanted to see the Perlman museum in Reykjavík so she drove me there to make it happen.
She gave us a lot of information about Iceland and the local culture. I really enjoyed this trip. Highly recommend to others.

My experience was top notch! Beyond the standard itinerary, our guide Gisli stopped at several additional places along the route that we wanted to visit. He also shared so much about each site and Icelandic culture in general. As for the food, there were always delicious vegetarian/vegan options available. 10/10 would recommend!

Our trip to Iceland was a blast! We were having a hot summer, so hiking on glaciers and boating across an iceberg filled lake was a great way to beat the heat back home. The volcanic activity makes beautiful blackened soil and sand, and hot spring lagoons were better than any hot tub I've ever been in.

I highly recommend this trip! We saw the best of Iceland with a delightful small group and an excellent guide. If I was going again I would chose the premium level trip and get better accomodation but it was not a deal breaker...it was more than adequate! The Mercedes bus was comfortable and Jura is a great driver.
