Is this trip right for you?
verified
Bhutan is a high-altitude destination, so taking it easy for a day or two makes for a much more comfortable trip. Drinking tea and water and avoiding strenuous exercise will help you acclimatise after arriving.
verified
Hiking on this trip can be strenuous and will take place on high altitude, up to 3500 metres above sea level. Please make sure you are adequately prepared physically.
verified
Please read packing list available on Essential Trip document carefully and make sure you bring all necessary items.
verified
Despite Bhutan being a small country, you'll experience long travel days as most roads are single lane. It’s all part of the adventure and a great way to get to know your fellow travellers. Please read the itinerary carefully for travel time estimates.
verified
While it’s legal to consume imported meat, the slaughtering of animals for consumption within Bhutan is banned, therefore delicious veggie dishes are varied and bountiful at every meal.
verified
Please be aware that hot water is limited in some places. Speaking of all things heated, the Bhutanese love chilli and the food can be a touch spicy.
verified
All meals are included due to the nature of travelling in Bhutan. This means there may be limited choices on some days.
Itinerary
Immerse yourself in the past, present and future of Bhutan
The kingdom of Bhutan in the Himalayas sits between two spiritual hubs – Tibet and India – and is one of Asia’s best-kept secrets. On this active adventure, you’ll discover there is no better way to explore it than on foot as you hike through country that’s full of protected forest, so it absorbs more carbon than it uses. Feel closer to enlightenment as you hike along the restored Trans Bhutan Trail which will immerse you in the past, present and future. Uncover Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage on a journey that explores forested valleys, fortified monasteries and sacred mountains on your own two feet and discover the beauty of its people, landscape and culture with a local leader who will help you unlock its secrets.

This was an awesome trip. Great hikes, just the right amount of culture and an outstanding tour leader Sangay Dubjur. He went out of his way to not only make our life easy but also to explain how Bhutan works - its religion, its political system, its conservation efforts. Loved it.

Sangay and his team are outstanding people and fantastic ambassadors for Bhutan. We were fortunate to enjoy great weather that made the trekking so wonderful. The temples and lucky experiences with World Peace and local Buddhist festivals were fortunate. The accommodations and food were better than expected. I look forward to taking another trip with Sangay.

A trip of a lifetime. Bhutan is still a hidden gem due to travel being very restricted, and this trip ventures out to the most serene and peaceful hideaways along the Trans-Bhutan-Trail. Apart from the last days in Paro we hardly encountered anyone else, so it felt like such an exclusive experience.
Our leader Sangay and his crew took the best care of us, with a few surprise elements and his passion for his country was unmatched, loved all the stories and anecdotes he shared and went above and beyond to make sure everyone is happy and getting an authentic experience.
The trail itself is maintained, however due to heavy rains and landslides in the days prior to our trip a majority of the trail was quite muddy, something to be aware of.
Overall we had beautiful hikes, of various terrain, scenery and difficulty, everyday was different but each day was beautiful!

In my opinion Intrepid should rename this trip into “10 perfect days in Bhutan”. I couldn’t even say which day was my favourite as every day was unique and full of highlights. Sangay and his team were wonderful and really helped me getting a glimpse of Bhutan. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
And also (after reading some other reviews): the hikes are wonderful and totally manageable with correct hiking gear and awareness of the nature.
So, if you’re still wondering: just book the trip!

Couldn’t recommend this trip enough! Amazing combination of experiencing a truly unique culture and time in pristine nature. While it is good to have a reasonable amount of fitness, the hiking wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. I definitely recommend reading the trip notes thoroughly as they really to tell you everything you need to be prepared. If you choose this trip it will be a highlight of your life!
