Trip Informations
Explore the remote Albanian Alps on this eight-day hiking adventure, where every bend in the trail rewards you with raw beauty and stops along the way immerse you in local culture. Hike the Volusnica ridge for views of the Karanfili peaks and follow mountain paths across borders to tackle the legendary Theth to Valbona trail, accessible only on foot. Then, take on the ascent to Rosni peak. Covering up to 15 km (9.3 mi) per day, every step leads to village stays, where you can tuck into farm-fresh lunches and traditional barbecue dinners and meet the locals who call this alpine paradise home.
Why you’ll love this trip
Explore the Albanian Alps and challenge yourself with some of the best guided hikes in the region.
Scale the famous Rosni Peak – one of Albania’s most iconic alpine landscapes – for a rewarding trek that offers sweeping panoramic views and crisp mountain air.
Hike from the local mountain villages of Theth to Valbona. Expect rugged beauty, dramatic peaks and a journey rich in local charm.
Take a boat ride across Komani Lake, where turquoise waters cut through towering cliffs.
Sit down to lunch at the scenic farm, Mrizi i Zanave in Fishte, and get to know Albania through its local flavours and people.
Is this trip right for you?
This is a hiking trip, so a good level of fitness is essential. Expect long days (up to 9 hours) and hikes of up to 15 km (9.3 mi) a day, with over 1500 m (4921 ft) of elevation gain. Be prepared for remote mountain regions and unpredictable weather. You will take short transfers between your accommodation and the start and end point of the hikes. These drives can often be quite bumpy.
Some hikes are point-to-point with no shortcuts or possibility to turn back. Review the descriptions carefully to ensure you’re comfortable with the time, distance and terrain.
The final stretch from the Saddle of Farumi to the summit of Rosni peak (Day 6) offers a rewarding but challenging ascent. For your safety and enjoyment, the trip leader will assess conditions on the day to determine whether the group will continue to the summit. This decision will take into account the group’s abilities, weather conditions and the time of arrival at the Saddle of Farumi, ensuring the best possible experience for all participants.
Pack lightly as you’ll need to carry your own bag. Although you won’t walk long distances with your luggage (max 30 minutes), aim to keep it under 15 kg (33 lb). Bringing a soft duffel bag or a backpack is essential as on certain hikes we will use mules to transport it to our next overnight stop. You’ll also need a daypack/small bag for water and personal items during day trips.

Very well organised and beautiful hikes in a country previously unknown to me. I managed them but might have struggled if they had been a bit harder or I was a bit less fit or older. The holiday has sparked a lot of interest in Albania since our return. We'd like to return in spring

Albania has an expanding tourist industry. Tirana is interesting and worth a few days stay, then the hiking is magnificent - plenty of ascents, views variety and of course descents. Our weather in October was perfect for walking. I recommend this trip especially after a shot of ‘Raki’.

An excellent trip! The scenery was truly outstanding. A lot of research has been done here to find the hikes and arrange transportation so you can hike the most scenic and interesting portions. Prepare for all trail surface types

Hike the Albanian Alps. Spectacular scenery. Each of the 4 hikes offered variety. Challenging but achievable for moderate to good fitness. The last day travelling on the river a great way to rest and reset. Fabulous supportive guide.

It’s a perfect trip all around from beginning to the end. Good group of 6 and Ivan is amazing guide. The sceneries were stunning and surrounded by mountains and wildflowers hard not to stopped to admired them. The bungalow in Gusinje, Montenegro had log cabin vibe was lovely and the owner treated us like a family and make sure we were well fed before and after the hike? The best people I had met. The hotel In Valbone very modern and nice balcony to relax. Theth was busy and crowded by hikers, the hotel was ok didn’t like the way the bathrooms designed with wet floor and mirror inside the bathroom, just personal preference. This trip well used and balanced on times before and after the trip. The farm tour also added the highlight on road trips. Boat ride on the last day was relaxing and perfect activity to end the trip. Credit my amazing experienced to the group, guide and local hoses that really made this trip memorable. The treks can physically demanding, good fitness will make a different.

This trip took me to some amazing locations. The Accursed Mountains were so beautiful they took my breath away - literally as I did struggle a bit with the hikes. The elevation was no joke. Our guide Ivan and the rest of the tour participants were wonderful though. All the accommodation and transport was very comfortable. I especially enjoyed the lunch at Agritourism on Day 2. Thanks for a great trip!
