Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Meet a local family at the Xwejni Salt Pans, which have been in use since Roman times, and discover how they have been harvesting salt here for over 160 years.
Get to know Gozo from the water during a kayak excursion, where you’ll visit Comino Island and stop off at the aptly named Blue Lagoon for a swim.
Learn about Valletta – one of the smallest European capitals that’s packed with a wealth of historical landmarks – during a guided walking tour where you’ll explore historic districts like Senglea, Cospicua and Vittoriosa.
Experience Malta’s history at the Hagar Qim Archaeological Site. Dating back as far as 3600 BC, this is one of the oldest religious sites in the world.
Explore the fortified city of Victoria, Gozo’s capital, with visits to the medieval citadel, the Gozo Museum of Archaeology, Gran Castello Historic House and the Gozo Nature Museum.
Is this trip right for you?
On this trip you must pack as lightly as possible because you’ll be expected to carry your own bag. Although you won't be required to walk long distances with your luggage (max 30 minutes), we strongly recommend keeping the weight under 15 kg (33 lb). Most travellers carry their luggage in a backpack. Smaller bags or backpacks with wheels are convenient, although we recommend your bag has carry straps to accommodate the cobbled streets, uneven surfaces, stairs and steps you’ll likely encounter while carrying your luggage. You'll also need a daypack/bag to carry water and a camera for daytrips.
Itinerary
Set your watch to island time for a Maltese adventure
Malta may be one of the world’s smallest countries, but it’s big on ancient history, natural beauty and vibrant culture. Uncover the highlights and hidden treasures of Malta and Gozo on this seven-day adventure with an expert leader to help you see the country through the eyes of a local. Discover what makes Valletta so special during an in-depth walking tour, go back in time at the ancient site of Hagar Qim and learn about a local trade at the Xwejni Salt Pans. Ferry across to neighbouring Gozo and hike along the coastline, then kayak across the water to Comino Island. One thing’s for sure – big things come in small packages.

I gave some thought about whether it was worth my while book in a tour in Malta as it’s so accessible from where I live, but I’m glad I did. I saw so much more than I would have seen if I had attempted it myself, and I also didn’t need to spend large parts of my holiday organising things. The tour was great, with a lovely, small group. Both hotels and all of the inclusions were of a really good standard. And there was plenty of time to relax and feel like I was on holiday.

Malta and Gozo are a feast for the eyes and mind! A fascinating mix of the ancient, very old, old, and burgeoning new. There is a great sense of national pride felt throughout. Maurizio was a great leader, kind, thoughtful and genuine. I would be happy to have him as a group leader again in the future.

This tour is the perfect blend of culture, history, nature, and local flavor—and what truly made it unforgettable was our guide Spartaco (Sparty). His professionalism, deep knowledge, infectious enthusiasm, and warm personality brought Malta to life in a way no guidebook ever could. From the moment we arrived in Valletta, Sparty made sure we felt welcomed and immersed in the experience. Each stop was thoughtfully planned and full of local insight. One of the highlights was definitely our day trip to Comino Island and the Blue Lagoon—breathtaking views and crystal-clear water that felt like a dream. The itinerary was well-paced, offering the perfect mix of structured exploration and free time to relax or dive deeper into the places that intrigued us most. Malta may be small, but this tour proves it’s packed with wonder. A heartfelt thanks to Sparty for making every moment special—his passion turned this great trip into something truly special. Highly recommended!

Really liked Malta, which has the wow factor when you turn up. A week is a nice amount of time. Had a really good group of solo travellers which added to the experience. Very easy to get around, with lots of good food and an interesting history. Gabi our tour lead was very experienced and great fun.
