Why you’ll love this trip
Meet a local family at the Xwejni Salt Pans, which have been in use since Roman times, and discover how they have been harvesting salt here for over 160 years.
Get to know Gozo from the water during a kayak excursion, where you’ll visit Comino Island and stop off at the aptly named Blue Lagoon for a swim.
Learn about Valletta – one of the smallest European capitals that’s packed with a wealth of historical landmarks – during a walking tour where you’ll explore historic districts like Senglea, Cospicua and Vittoriosa.
Experience Malta’s history at the Hagar Qim Archaeological Site. Dating back as far as 3600 BC, this is one of the oldest religious sites in the world.
Explore the fortified city of Victoria, Gozo’s capital, with visits to the medieval citadel, the Gozo Museum of Archaeology, Gran Castello Historic House and the Gozo Nature Museum. m.
Is this trip right for you?
On this trip you must pack as lightly as possible because you’ll be expected to carry your own bag. Although you won't be required to walk long distances with your luggage (max 30 minutes), we strongly recommend keeping the weight under 15 kg (33 lb). Most travellers carry their luggage in a backpack. Smaller bags or backpacks with wheels are convenient, although we recommend your bag has carry straps to accommodate the cobbled streets, uneven surfaces, stairs and steps you’ll likely encounter while carrying your luggage. You'll also need a daypack/bag to carry water and a camera for daytrips.
Itinerary
Set your watch to island time for a Maltese adventure
Malta may be one of the world’s smallest countries, but it’s big on ancient history, natural beauty and vibrant culture. Uncover the highlights and hidden treasures of Malta and Gozo on this seven-day adventure with an expert leader to help you see the country through the eyes of a local. Discover what makes Valletta so special during an in-depth walking tour, go back in time at the ancient site of Hagar Qim and learn about a local trade at the Xwejni Salt Pans. Ferry across to neighbouring Gozo and hike along the coastline, then kayak across the water to Comino Island. One thing’s for sure – big things come in small packages.

Malta is the country of all the cultures! There is art and culture everywhere, people are just happy to be here and festivals happened every weekend. The history, the art, Caravaggio, music and of course food, it is now one of my favorite countries in the world!

This trip really opened my eyes and heart to a country I wasn't very familiar with. There is so much history in Malta and the landscape - especially the beaches - is gorgeous! The tour packs a lot into a week and I enjoyed all of it - we also had a fun group. Mariella, our local guide for 2 days, was fantastic and Valentina- our leader - took great care of us. XO Intrepid!

Another great group & delightful trip. Malta has such a rich history. Glad the Gozo component wasn’t as quiet/remote as I feared. There’s just about enough to do there & taxis v reasonable if you want to get around. Recommend Ramla beach for a beach day.
