Trip Informations
Spend 10 days exploring Azerbaijan and Georgia, where historic Old Towns and monasteries sit alongside skyscrapers and the Caucasus mountains. Discover the ancient history hidden among Azerbaijan's futuristic architecture, then cross into Georgia to explore medieval ruins and sample traditional wines. Visit one of the world’s largest open-air museums at UNESCO World Heritage-listed Qobustan, savour a hearty home-cooked lunch with a local Kakheti family and hike to the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church. From cities to mountain villages and mud volcanoes, this trip promises unforgettable encounters and authentic local experiences at every turn.
Why you’ll love this trip
Walk through Azerbaijan's Old Town, where views of the Palace of the Shirvanshahs are made even more spectacular by the modern skyscrapers in the background.
Hike to the 14th-century Gergeti Trinity Church, which sits in splendid isolation at 2170 m in the heart of the Caucasus Mountains.
Stop at a traditional Georgian wine producer where the ancient, UNESCO-listed qvevri method is still used, then enjoy a hearty home-cooked lunch.
Navigate the organised chaos of the farmers markets in Telavi. Your expert local leader will be there to help you order as much fresh fruit, nuts or pigs’ heads as you desire.
Connect with locals and gain insight into everyday life in this part of the world – you'll visit the Udi community in Nij, learn the traditional methods of copper craftsmanship in Lahij and appreciate stained-glass artistry in Sheki.
Is this trip right for you?
Some of the best scenery in the region is found on foot. So, while this trip doesn't require a high level of fitness, it’s essential to be at least moderately fit if you want to partake in all activities. Make sure you bring comfortable walking shoes with good support.

Great trip, with wonderful experiences and amazing food. Pavel was an exceptional tour leader. People in both countries were welcoming and friendly, and each country had their own unique sights and food. I particularly liked Baku old town, yoghurt making and visiting a copper workshop in Lahic, Sheki palace, stunning scenery in Georgia and delicious wine and food. Highly recommended!

Pavel was a dream group leader. He catered to all the members needs while being extremely knowledgeable, kind and funny. The group was excellent and a lot of laughs were had. The itinerary leaves space for you to explore your own interests while also seeing the main sites. I will be joining the Georgia and Armenia trip soon if I can’t thank you again to Pavel and all the local guides, hosts and drivers for making it so memorable and special.

Great trip to a part of the world that isn’t visited by the masses. Shalva was a great guide. Be sure to fly into Baku a few days early so you have time to explore the city before leaving. Also be sure to explore Tbilisi beyond what is included. Amazing experiences!

Shalva was an exceptional tour leader and contributed to a wonderful experience in a location I knew nothing about on arrival. There’s so much to see in Azerbaijan and Georgia and I highly recommend, especially for a seasoned traveler looking to expand their knowledge of other cultures. The cities and countrysides alike are beautiful, the food and wine is wonderful and varied, and we enjoyed our activities.

This is an excellent trip for a somewhat unknown part of the world for the UK. Great insight into history and culture, and some of the most delicious food I have ever eaten. 10/10 would recommend

The trip was fantastic from start to finish, I really enjoyed it. The group leader Anton was brilliant and we got to see a real mixture of things in both Azerbaijan and Georgia. The accomodations were good and I loved the food, especially in Georgia. I would recommend the trip and will travel again with Intrepid.
