Trip Informations
On this 12-day journey through Greenland, you’ll visit traditional villages, learn about Inuit culture and witness the hum of daily life in some of the most remote settlements in the world. Sail across the Denmark Strait, watching wildlife like seals and rare seabirds from your ship – the Ocean Victory. Go on Zodiac expeditions in Evighedsfjorden (AKA the ‘Eternity Fjord’), Sermilik Fjord and Tasiilaq, where you’ll get to know the culture of the local Tunumiit people. Make your way from the small farming settlements of Qassiarsuk and Itilleq to the buzzing capital of Nuuk, guided by a knowledgeable Expedition Team.
Why you’ll love this trip
verified
Encounter Tunumiit culture and history in Tasiilaq. This town is East Greenland’s largest settlement and is the birthplace of the artform of tupilak – small figures carved from bone or stone. Watch local artists in action at the Stunk Artisan Workshop.
verified
Experience a vibrant blend of ancient and modern in Greenland’s colourful capital, Nuuk. Wander the local art shops, cosy cafes and the National Museum.
verified
Immerse yourself in the Arctic wilderness on a visit to the remote fjord of Skjoldungen. Explore this region on foot or on a Zodiac cruise, potentially seeing the glacial valley of Dronning Marie Dal and the Thryms Glacier.
verified
Explore the ruins of a US airbase from WWII in the deserted village of Ikateq, located at the entrance to the grand Sermilik fjord.
verified
Witness Arctic wildlife like polar bears, walruses, arctic foxes, seals and beluga whales. Take advantage of great photo ops from the deck of your ship – the Ocean Victory – and learn about these animals and their habitats from your expert Expedition Team.
Is this trip right for you?
verified
The Ocean Victory is an ice-strengthened ship – large, sturdy and suited to the unpredictable Arctic waters. Some people may experience seasickness in occasional rough seas. We have a doctor on board should you need assistance. Over-the-counter seasickness medication is usually an easy fix.
verified
Temperatures in the Arctic can get very cold, but it also can get surprisingly warm when the sun comes out. We recommend dressing in layers when you journey outside. We’ll loan you waterproof boots that are sturdy and warm, plus we’ll provide you with a waterproof jacket that is yours to keep. Please see the Essential Trip Information for a packing list.

Depending on the weather, you’ll be travelling in a Zodiac boat quite regularly to explore the areas and search for wildlife. It can get cold and wet on the Zodiac, so make sure you dress appropriately and keep your camera safe and dry. A fair level of mobility is needed for wet and dry landings from the boat, as well as on steep terrain, snow and other uneven surfaces. Elevators may be closed in rough seas, requiring the use of stairs for meals, presentations and activities.
verified
The weather plays a pivotal part in this adventure and, although there’s an itinerary in place, there are no guarantees that you’ll be able to do everything that is planned. A level of flexibility and openness to embracing the unexpected are important in expedition travel, especially in an area as remote as the Arctic. The experienced expedition team and captain will always have alternative landing sites planned if the first option is no longer available due to weather.
verified
We may be confined to the ship during rough weather, but there are plenty of onboard resources and activities. The ship’s library and educational lectures are ideal ways to stay entertained, while the spa and gym will keep you fresh for when the weather clears.
