Trip Informations
Canada’s Rocky Mountains are an awesome landscape of craggy, towering rock faces, snow-capped mountains, thick forests and picturesque lakes. See the totem poles in Vancouver’s Stanley Park, then learn about Indigenous relationships with the land on a guided walk with a Cultural Land Ambassador in Whistler. Traverse the scenic Icefields Parkway between Banff and Jasper, experiencing the renowned expanse of Lake Louise and turquoise Maligne Lake and Spirit Island. Or wrap your hands around a mug of hot chocolate while admiring the superb alpine scenery of the Rockies. Ready for a grand adventure? Jump aboard and witness the sheer beauty of this exceptional part of the world.
Why you’ll love this trip
Sit back and enjoy the Icefields Parkway between Jasper and Banff, one of the most scenic drives on earth – it’s a wow-packed, head-swiveling corridor of glaciers, waterfalls and alpine peaks.
Walk Whistler’s Lost Lake Trail with a Cultural Land Ambassador, learning about the Skwxwu7mesh (Squamish) and Lilwat relationships with the land, then share Indigenous tea with your guide and group.
Experience the seasonal moods and beauty of Lake Louise for yourself and cross off one of those must-see bucket list experiences.
Keep your eye on the roadside for extraordinary wildlife like elk, black bears, grizzly bears, eagles, Rocky Mountain goats, and – if you're lucky – beavers, wolves and moose.
Explore Jasper as you wish, maybe boating on postcard-perfect Maligne Lake, hiking the Mary Schaeffer or Moose Lake trails or biking at Beauvert Lake.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip covers a lot of ground. After all, Canada is a huge country. Please be prepared for some long days of driving. The drive between Sun Peaks and Jasper, for example, takes around 6 hours.
Some activities in the Rockies have flexible opening and closing dates that vary based on snowfall at higher elevations and other seasonal conditions. On departures in May, early June, September and October, some activities like gondolas, certain mountain hikes or rafting may be unavailable, but these shoulder-season months offer the advantage of fewer crowds and a more relaxed travel experience. Your leader will have a range of alternative activity suggestions no matter the season.
As we’re travelling through the mountains, the weather can be unpredictable. We advise wearing layers at all times of the year in case conditions change during the day. At night, the temperature can really drop, so please have warm clothing with you.
In summer, especially in July and August, be prepared for insects. This is mosquito and black fly season so it’s important to bring insect repellent.
