No two journeys in Africa are identical. There will be many early starts either to make use of the better safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days. Be prepared for travel times to be longer or shorter than advised. Weather and road conditions can change things significantly, so embrace the detours, shortcuts, and unforgettable moments along the way.
verified
Tracking gorillas in the dense forest can sometimes be wet, muddy and uncomfortable. The terrain is by no means easy either, so it can be strenuous and often humid. But the sheer thrill of coming across a habituated group of gorillas, dominated by a great male silverback, more than outweighs any difficulty. You need to be prepared and fit enough to walk up to four hours – up and down hills. A top tip is to pack some gardening gloves to assist in any uphill climbs. This is a participatory overland camping trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle, visiting remote communities, setting up your tent, helping out with camp chores, occasionally roughing it in the bush with no facilities, and getting the best possible views of iconic African wildlife. For more info on this style of travel, see our Africa overland page at tuuur.com/africa/overland.

A fabulous trip, our guide Zac was extremely knowledgeable regarding the wildlife, put the group at ease with the boarder crossings. Joy our cook made some amazing local dishes, but made sure she catered for everyone's tastes. Steve our driver, not only did he get us where we needed to be on time, navigating some very difficult terrain, he was the life and sole of the trip, all ways had a joke to tell and so much energy.

The Intrepid Kenya and Uganda Game Parks and Beaches tour was fantastic. Camping was a highlight, with great cooking and excellent driving throughout. The experiences were memorable and well organised. However, I feel the Maasai village visit should be optional, as discussions around FGM can be a particularly sensitive and uncomfortable subject for some travellers.

It’s a great tour. Expect lots of driving though, as you cover great distances.
We got lucky on our chimpanzee trek and saw so many up close on the ground.
The gorilla trek is obviously great too. The trackers and guide on your trek will ask you for a tip afterwards so just be mindful and remember to carry cash, and they expect usd.
I did rafting in jinja and enjoyed it, although it wasn’t as crazy and adrenaline pumping as I was hoping it would be.
The sunset sail in Jinja wasn’t great, i didn’t do it but those who did returned saying it was boring, just fyi.

What an experience. Florence, Elvis and Mush were exceptional. The game drives were to die for. We saw the big 5 and many others. Lucky enough to see the vultures clean up a cheater kill. Amazing you need to do this trip

An unforgettable trip from start to finish. The gorilla trekking was truly life-changing, the game parks were incredible, and every day brought a new adventure. Fantastic organisation, brilliant local guides, and an amazing group made this one of the best travel experiences I've ever had.

I have had the time of my life! The gorillas were the main focus for signing up to this trip but so much more was offered. The hot air ballooning was just out of this world and the Mara teeming with wildlife as we found ourselves in the middle of the migration. Thanks Intrepid, Eli, Purity and Steve

Our Kenya and Uganda trip was outstanding despite media reports about Ebola. There was nothing to worry about. There are long days on the road but totally worth it when you see the animals. The gorilla trek was the highlight for me. Our trip staff were excellent
