Why you’ll love this trip
Discover Taiwan’s culinary traditions by collecting clams, rolling your own tea leaves at a plantation and cooking farm-fresh spring onion pancakes.
Hike through misty mountain foothills to a nine-tiered pagoda overlooking Sun Moon Lake and ride around the emerald-coloured waters on a cycling adventure.
Spend the day with the Indigenous Atayal community to learn about their tribal costumes, face tattoos and traditional survival techniques, and share a home-cooked meal that showcases Indigenous flavours.
Explore stalls piled with dried fruits, herbs and traditional medicines on Dihua Street – considered one of the oldest streets in Taiwan.
Ride the Forest Railway train through Alishan’s tropical and subtropical forests and hike the Sacred Forest Trail among giant Cypress trees.
Is this trip right for you?
We use mainly private transport between destinations on this trip to enable you to pack as many highlights as possible into each day. When in Taipei you can expect plenty of walking and to make use of the efficient metro system.
There are several opportunities for hiking and cycling on this trip. While these are not strenuous, they do require a good overall level of fitness.
This trip doesn’t spend a lot of time in Taipei. We highly recommend you spend extra time in this great city. Please consult your booking agent for booking extra accommodation here before or after the trip.

Yui was a fantastic leader! She showed us so many hidden gems and offered us excellent food and restaurant suggestions. I absolutely loved the depth of experience we got to have in Taiwan and left feeling more knowledgable about the culture and people. I strongly recommend this trip for anyone who wants to experience Taiwan with the help of a local.

I’m still buzzing from another incredible Intrepid trip. We did the 11-day Explore Taiwan itinerary with our amazing leader Vivian, and it was honestly outstanding. I’d highly recommend this trip to anyone considering Taiwan — especially if you want to experience far more than just Taipei. The itinerary takes you into the mountains, along the coast, through small towns and national parks, and really shows you the heart of the country.

Our 11-day trip in a small group of 12 in Taiwan in Oct-Nov 2025 was fantastic! We had a great itinerary covering so many places and experiences and stayed in good accommodation. Our guide Bessy was wonderful and our driver Sa Sa was amazing. We felt safe and confident in their care. This is our first Intrepid tour and won’t be our last! Thanks to all of you 🙏 Lin & Steve

Taiwan offers a must-see blend of bustling city life, natural wonders, and rich cultural experiences. From the towering peaks and rugged valleys of the east to the plains and the Taiwan Strait in the west, the island showcases a breathtaking diversity of landscapes. Our guide, Liya, and driver, Sasa, were superb — and I couldn't have asked for a better touring group. A fantastic trip!

What an incredible little country, and tour of Taiwan this was! A nation certainly not to be overlooked, this tour covered so much history, culture, and activities specific to the geography of the area, and we only just scraped the surface of tourism here! So much more to see, do and eat!

Intrepid trips are a great mix of activities and immersion in nature, history and culture, but I was surprised by how much I really enjoyed Taiwan. It is so clean and the people are delightful.
