Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Track rhinos on foot with an expert local guide in Matobo National Park and support local conservation efforts with a visit to Khama Rhino Sanctuary.
Immerse yourself in the ancient culture of the Venda people during a village homestay in South Africa's Limpopo province.
Camping on a remote island in the heart of the Okavango wilderness is an experience you’ll never forget. As the sun sets and night falls, the sounds of Africa come alive.
Explore the magnificent Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, some of the largest salt flats in the world. These mind-bending plains make for some magical photography.
Marvel at the unforgettable views of Blyde River Canyon. This spectacular gorge is up there with the world's largest and probably the greenest.
Is this trip right for you?
This is an overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle, visiting remote communities, setting up your own tent, occasionally roughing it in the bush with no facilities, and getting the best possible views of Africa's iconic wildlife. While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, they do have sliding windows, which let in the breeze and make it even easier to take spectacular snaps of the local wildlife. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie. For more info on this style of travel, see our Africa overland page:  https://www.tuuur.com/africa/overland https://www.tuuur.com/africa/overland (https://www.tuuur.com/africa/overland)
There will be many early starts either to make use of the better safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days.
Camping out in the amazing Okavango wilderness means digging a bush toilet and going without a shower. It's all part of the delta experience.

Important notes
1. If you’d prefer not to share a room on this trip, you may purchase a single supplement, subject to availability. The single supplement excludes Day 15 (Homestay), where you will be in shared accommodation. Please speak to your booking agent for further information.
2. This is a combination trip made up of two shorter trips. This means the composition of your group may change in Victoria Falls as some group members leave and new ones join you.
3. This trip finishes upon arrival in Johannesburg on Day 18. Please do not book any flights until after 10 pm this evening.
4. On occasion, especially during the peak months of May to September and December we are not able to secure campsites within the Kruger National Park. In this instance we will camp at a backpackers outside the park.
5.The minimum age for this trip is 15 at the time of travel. Any travellers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian, or in lieu of a legal guardian, by an escort over the age of 18, appointed by their legal guardian. The legal guardian or their designee will be responsible for the traveller under the age of 18 day to day’s care. If a legal guardian elects to designate an escort in their lieu, they will be required to complete and sign a relevant document, to delegate their authority.
6. Border crossing delays in the region have been sporadic and difficult to predict. What takes an hour one day may take four hours the next. This may affect the order of activities in the itinerary. We understand this uncertainty can be frustrating, and we strongly recommend packing a bit of patience and flexibility.

Wow, wow, wow! What a fantastic trip. The people, places, animals and atmosphere were out of this world. If you're looking for a trip to put you out of your comfort zone a little and meet beautiful people, then this is the trip to take.

This is the best snapshot of Southern Africa one could ask for. We learnt a lot, felt safe and comfortable, experienced the culture, and saw so much wildlife. If you are happy camping, I can't recommend this enough, especially the team Nathi (leader), Chris (driver), and Fitz (cook). Unforgettable!

A trip of a life-time and one which will leave you with so many incredible memories, mixing nature, history, culture, people and authentic insights. Don’t be put off by the camping, early starts or distances. I used to travel premium style with Exodus and even this more basic style beats any trip I have done before hands down. Colly and Gift are tremendous assets to Intrepid and so knowledgeable, passionate and supportive that the only regret you will ever have is not securing a place on this trip. P.S: if you have a day spare in Jo’burgh I highly recommend visiting constitution hill. Profound and eye opening start or end of the trip.

What a great trip. Absolutely exceeded my expectations. The trip excursions that were included were amazing. But the people who made it happen the intrepid crew of Colly, Gift and Amo were fantastic. Couldn't do enough for you. Also no chance of loosing weight the food was amazing. Again guys thank you.

This might be the easiest five-star review that I have ever written. The Intrepid team - Colly, Amogelang and Gift - were world-class and went out of their way to ensure that each group member had an amazing experience. A special note about our cook - Amogelang - who prepared meals that were closer to a five-star hotel than you'd ever believe possible with camp-site facilities. Be prepared for some super-long travel days, but these never felt too laborious with frequent breaks and comfortable seats in the truck. It is also worth noting that there aren't too many opportunities for walking or hiking for those who might want a more active experience.

Booked this basic trip and it was amazing! If you are looking into doing this experience make sure you enjoy camping and don’t mind being dirty for a few days haha. Please read through the itinerary to make sure this trip is right for you! Crew was phenomenal, the atmosphere and attitude of the staff was awesome, always happy and laughing, making jokes, really made me feel super comfortable and welcome in their presence! Thank you Tshepo, Ricardo and Goodman for a very memorable adventure!

A trip of a lifetime! So blessed that I got to share this incredible experience with my sister. We were a little nervous being 2 young females travelling to Africa for the first time by ourselves and booking a trip in a group with such a diverse age range of people, but we had absolutely nothing to worry about. We wouldn’t change it for the world. Intrepid made everything so easy for us. We had the most amazing time and met the most amazing people (from our crew to everyone in our group), and will never forget the memories created on this trip and the adventures we had along the way. Every day was filled with so much laughter, which just made everything so much more fun! A massive thank you to our amAAAZZZing guide Tshepo, talented cook Ricardo and our incredible driver Mr Goodman. They all worked incredibly hard and went over and above to make sure we all had the absolute best time. If you are thinking about doing this trip, please make sure you read over the itinerary before booking to know exactly what you are getting into by booking a basic trip (camping, long drives with some African massage, rough roads, early starts etc). If you are okay with this, then I promise you that you will have the most incredible time. Would also say to keep in mind to put a little extra money aside for other expenses during the trip like tipping money, some meals, optional add ons & gift shopping. Be open minded, have patience and embrace the experience and the adventure that comes along with it. I will definitely be coming back to Africa again via Intrepid with my sister. If only we could request the same crew again.

Phenomenal trip. The Intrepid crew (Cardi, Nolo and Shorty) were so good at what they do. I don't think anything will ever compare to wild camping throughout Southern Africa and the experiences we had on this trip. At times you might feel stretched, out of your comfort zone or a long way from home, but in all of the best ways possible. I loved being away from my regular life back home - no phone reception, outdoor showers, star-filled night skies, the distance sound of African wildlife and beautiful people. As the saying goes - if I’ve ever seen magic, it’s been in Africa! Thanks Intrepid for helping us experience the African magic.
