Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Set sail on one of the world’s most iconic rivers with an included felucca trip down the Nile. Relax and soak up the landscapes as scenes of everyday Egyptian life pass you by.
Bask in the unique atmosphere of Aswan and experience not only the warmth and charm of Nubian hospitality but also some delicious traditional cuisine at a local homestay.
Explore the balmy Red Sea on a snorkelling adventure in Hurghada – sharing a tasty lunch aboard the yacht and looking out for clownfish, turtles and manta rays among the kaleidoscopic coral.
Uncover one of the greatest cities in antiquity, Alexandria, reborn as Egypt’s alternative capital, and pay your respects at El Alamein – an important World War II battle site.
Lose yourself in Cairo’s many iconic sites – visit Giza’s great pyramids (one of the Seven Wonders of the World), the Sphinx and maybe head inside The Great Pyramid of Khufu.
Is this trip right for you?
The Nile felucca cruise is an amazing experience, but you'll be sharing a sleeping area with your fellow group members for the night and using a shared bathroom facility on board.
The walkways around ruins can be uneven, dusty and rocky, so be sure to bring sturdy, comfortable walking shoes. At major sites such as the pyramids, you can expect to be exposed to the elements at length, so be prepared with a hat, sunscreen and plenty of fluids.
The temperatures in Egypt can be extreme, from very hot to very cold (it even snows in some places). Be sure to bring a varied wardrobe so you can layer up.
Itinerary
Uncover the mysteries and histories of Egypt
Experience the ancient stories and pharaonic cultures that make up the quintessential image of Egypt. For 15 days, you'll journey to bustling Cairo, cruise along the Nile in a traditional felucca and explore Luxor, Alexandria and coastal Hurghada. Gaze at the grandeur of the pyramids (you can tick this Wonder of the World off your bucket list), step back in time in ancient tombs and relax on deck while you watch rural Egyptian life pass you by along the Nile. Acclaimed sights, tucked-away treasures, Nubian hospitality and everything in between – with a local leader by your side and a small group of likeminded travellers, you’ll discover the true face of Egypt.

Over all the trip was fantastic. The pyramids of Giza and Valley of the Tombs undeniable highlights. The guide had great knowledge. The “rest” days of Nile boat cruise and snorkelling in the Red Sea were wonderful. Tips: take USD to pay for optional actives (you will likely book many) and get a high GB sim card as WiFi is rubbish. I spent an additional £650 (GBP) on activities, food and simple souvenirs (excluding the hot air balloon). I paid for my own which I appreciated but those sharing were very considerate to one another.

I've been on a few group tours with a few local operators, and Intrepid is easily the best. They made it clear that they were would be taking care of each and every one of us. They only work with local guides, born and raised in the country. Sustainability is a very big deal to them. Their itineraries online are very detailed, and they never got impatient with the endless questions I had ahead of the trip. I also liked that they didn't force us to go to shops, and they have a program to match you with a roommate. I will certainly travel with them again.

An outstanding experience from start to finish with so many adventures along the way. If you are looking for a busy, culturally rewarding experience this tour is right for you. Egypt and Jordan are fast paced and exciting, and will challenge you every step of the way. It’s action packed and requires a fairly good level of fitness. If you are looking for comfort and relaxation, skip this trip. The accommodations will be challenging and likely not what you are used to, but a good pair of ear plugs can make a big difference. This tour exceeded my expectations and made me appreciate the cultural and history in a very special way thanks to our outstanding guide Wael.

This trip has been phenomenal, everyday was action packed and I woke up every morning excited to explore Egypt. At no point did I ever feel as if my health or safety would be in danger I felt very safe contrary to how the media portrays it to be. Ahmed was an incredible tour leader and was very entertaining, and made everyone in the tour feel included. I will highly recommend This trip and our tour leader Ahmed

The 14 day trip with Ahmed was brilliant! Every day there was a memorable highlight, from climbing inside one of the pyramids, the giant Ramesses statues, entering tombs, to seeing the stunning colours of the fish in the Red Sea. Unforgettable. Thank you Ahmed for helping us discover the wonders of Egypt!
