Trip Informations
Got 10 days, an adventurous spirit and a desire to see as much of East Africa as you can? Whether you're a solo traveller looking for new friends or some new friends looking for a solo to join the pack, this is for you! Head out on multiple 4WD safaris in the Maasai Mara National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park for the best opportunities to spot the Big Five and all your bucket list wildlife! Stop at remote market towns, spend a night in a Maasai village and another night by the largest tropical lake in the world and soak up all the chances to chat with the locals and learn about their culture. This trip is like a crash course in what East Africa is all about.
Why you’ll love this trip
Spend the night in a Maasai village in the remote Loita Hills region – be welcomed with traditional warrior song and dance, learn about life from community elders and maybe even learn to throw a spear.
Search for wildebeest, lions and leopards on a game drive in Maasai Mara National Reserve, then listen to the African wilderness come alive after sunset at your bush camp.
Cross the Serengeti in a purpose-built truck for one of those classic East African experiences – think vast plains spotted with thorn trees and huge herds of zebras and gazelles.
Explore the gigantic Ngorongoro Crater – the world's largest intact volcanic caldera and a home for around 30,000 large mammals. Look out for elephants and hippos as you drive along the crater floor.
Stop in places like Karatu and Musoma for a chance to chat with locals, swap stories and learn about their culture.
Is this trip right for you?
In Loita Hills, you'll be staying in a secure bush camp with basic facilities, hot bucket showers are available in the morning. Wi-fi is not available and only minimal upgrades are on offer at tonight’s bush camp.
Camping in the Serengeti means, well, camping in the Serengeti. No barriers between you and mother nature means there's no fence between you and the animals. We take safety seriously and your leader will brief you in detail on how to set up camp so as to deter animals from entering the camp.
This is an overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle, visiting remote communities, setting up your own tent, occasionally roughing it in the bush with no facilities, waking up before sunrise and getting the best possible views of the ‘Big Five’. While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, they do have sliding windows which let in the breeze and make it even easier to take spectacular snaps of the local wildlife. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie. This trip is a great way to see a lot in a short period of time and it can be part of a longer itinerary if you have more time to explore. You might like to check out Epic East Africa: Gorillas, Chimps and Game Parks or Real East Africa & Zanzibar.

This tour was fantastic. We saw so much, learned so much, from animals to culture it includes everything. We headed to zanzibar for the last 3 days and although it wasn't guided our leader made sure we had all the information we needed for our flight, transfers and hotels. It was fantastic.

The Essentials East Africa trip was truly a trip of a lifetime and I would absolutely do it again. Everything ran smoothly, the experiences were incredible, and the game drives were unforgettable — seeing the Big 5 was amazing. Camping in the Serengeti, with lions roaring 50 metres from our tent, was a highlight. None of it would have been possible without our fantastic guides Griffin, Edu, and Loy.

Otunga Griffin, Edo, and Loy took great care of us, keeping us safe, well fed, and giving us incredible wildlife experiences, from the Big Five to nighttime encounters. We learned about nature, culture, and politics while camping on our own. The trip was adventurous, educational, deeply memorable, and hard to say goodbye to.
