Trip Informations
Journey through Egypt on this eight-day trip and follow the winding path of the river Nile, soaking up Egypt's history, beauty and colour. Cruise the longest river in the world on a traditional felucca, discover the largest and most impressive Egyptian temples and share stories with interesting locals over home-cooked meals. Live it up in this country of deserts, bazaars, monuments and unmatched experiences – and come away with a deeper understanding of how Egypt’s past has shaped its future.
Why you’ll love this trip
Get a hands-on history lesson at some of the world's most iconic ancient sites – the Pyramids of Giza (one of the Seven Wonders of the World) and the Sphinx – with an expert local guide.
Embrace countless opportunities to connect with locals and experience their culture. Lose yourself in Cairo's colourful Khan al-Khalili bazaar and share a meal with local communities along the way.
Sail down the Nile on a traditional felucca and experience the excellent Nubian hospitality.
Walk in the footsteps of ancient royalty as you explore the Valley of the Kings and admire the Karnak Temple – the cult temple dedicated to the gods Amun, Mut and Khonsu.
Create your own Egyptian adventure during your free time on this trip – maybe explore Abu Simbel or relax at a local teahouse. The choice is yours!
Is this trip right for you?
Travelling on a felucca (traditional wooden boat) is awesome, but it's not for everyone. You will be sharing a sleeping area with your fellow group members for the night and a shared bathroom facility. You'll sleep outside under the stars on a simple mattress, with some bedding provided. If you do feel the cold, you should consider bringing a sleeping bag.
The walkways around many Egyptian ruins can be uneven, dusty and rocky, so be sure to bring comfortable walking shoes. At large sites such as Valley of the Kings, you can also expect to be walking in the elements for most of the day, so adequate sun protection is essential.
Some hotels in Egypt may not have lifts. You may need to climb stairs with your luggage to reach your hotel room for the night.
Temperatures in the Egypt can be extreme, ranging from very hot to very cold, depending on the season – it can even snow in some places! Layers will come in handy for sun protection as well as warmth.
Overnight train journeys are a fast way to cross long distances, better for the environment and a great travel experience. You will share two-berth air-conditioned cabins, with all bedding provided and western style toilets on board.

This experience was amazing and something I will remember forever. Intrepid planned excellent locations to visit and safe places to eat. Our tour guide Ahmed was truly inspiring and his love for his work made the trip that much more memorable.

Intrepid’s Egypt Adventure tour was a mind blowing exploration of ancient Egypt. It was hard to believe it was real at times. Absolutely stunning pyramids, temples, tombs, food, culture and people. Try to take your tour with the guide named Ahmed Eleakel if possible. He is an egyptologist and so passionate about sharing ancient Egypt with visitors. Highly recommend.

Intrepid have looked after myself and my family on five separate trips, we cannot fault the adventures and why?…… because the guides are local and understand the culture. They love their countries and they want you to also love their countries.

Our guide Ramy was amazing and incredibly passionate. I would highly recommend this trip because of him. He always went the extra mile throughout the trip to make it special and memorable (he even brought me a birthday cake as my 19th birthday took place across the trip!).

I have used Intrepid on several trips over the years - Intrepid’s thoughtful itineraries combine hitting the things you want to see, cultural experiences to interact with locals and free time to explore on your own - all done within an ethos of responsible travel. Our recent trip to Egypt was made even more special by our wonderful guide Maged. A trip of a lifetime!

Following a long-standing dream with my elderly mum, I went to Egypt with Intrepid and was guided by Mahmoud aka Mudi. He took care of us so brilliantly, he’s so well connected in his homeland, and always made time to accommodate our wishes and answer our questions. I loved learning from his encyclopaedic knowledge. Trip of a lifetime thanks to Mudi!

The trip was very well managed but a few interesting visits were missed. The first day was wasted, meeting at 4 pm! Aswan & Luxor were wonderful. Would recommend if Alabaster was on the menu.

The trip was very well managed. I was lucky not to have had to share a train cabin or an hotel room as there were only 3 of us plus the guide. The hotel in Cairo (Pharaohs) let it down a bit compared to the ones in the South which were excellent.

I am normally a solo traveler, but thoroughly enjoyed my Egypt Adventure with Intrepid. Just the right mix of activities and free time. Would definitely do another trip with them.
