Why you’ll love this trip
Explore the majestic rainforest however you’d like – jungle treks, dugout canoe safaris, or by relaxing in a hammock and keeping an eye on the wildlife
Expert guides will reveal extraordinary wildlife – caiman, otters, sloths, parrots, monkeys, hoatzin, monkeys, capybaras, anacondas – and provide insights into the area's importance to the local communities
Staying in the depths of the Amazon is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that defines the saying of ‘off the beaten track’
Is this trip right for you?
On Short Breaks, you maintain a good level of independence and freedom, with the added bonus of having the details sorted out for you. You’ll have lots of free time and you won’t be accompanied by a Trip Leader. This means that all included activities and tours will be run by different local Tuuur partners, and these may operate independently from each other. The included activities and transfers will operate on a join-in basis, which means that you could have your Adventure all to yourself, or others may join you along the way. If you would prefer to travel in a group with a dedicated Trip Leader, just get in touch with your booking agent and they will take you through some alternatives.
Temperatures in the Amazon can fluctuate. It can get really hot, humid, sticky during the day, and cold at night. Light cotton clothing is the best way to tackle the heat during the day, and base layers are ideal for keeping warm at night.
Insects, especially mosquitoes, abound in the Amazon. Bring tropical strength insect repellent and wear long sleeves and pants to protect your skin.
This trip includes jungle hikes, which can be strenuous due to the humidity. A decent level of fitness is required to feel comfortable when exploring the jungle.
While accommodation in the Amazon is clean, comfortable and ideally located, it can seem pretty basic. Please remember that this is a very remote part of the world.

Important notes
1. This Short Break Adventure is a ‘join in’ group departure, which means you are not accompanied by an Tuuur group leader – our local representative fills this role – and the configuration of any fellow travellers in the group might change during the trip.
This trip will run with a minimum of one person, so you may be joined by other travellers booked on the same
2. While that Amazon lodge has a capacity for up to 50 travellers, 1 local guide is allocated every 10 travellers.
3. Parts of your trip go above 2800 metres / 9200 feet where it is common for travellers to experience some adverse health effects due to the altitude - regardless of your age, gender and fitness. It even happened to Sir Edmund Hillary!
Please read the following document carefully and, during your trip, utilise the table on the back daily to record your own perspective of your general health and any symptoms you may experience:
4. This trip starts with a welcome meeting at 6 am on Day 1 in Quito. The day before your trip starts, an Tuuur local representative will meet you at your hotel. The representative will call beforehand to advise you of the exact time. You must provide details of the hotel you'll be staying, to your booking agent, no later than 14 days prior to departure.
5. This trip finishes upon arrival in Quito at the airport on Day 4. Please ensure flights out of Quito on the final day are booked to depart no earlier than 4pm.
6. Please provide your full passport details including name exactly as per passport at the time of booking (including any middle names listed on your passport) for plane tickets. Fees may apply for amendments to details within 45 days of departure, and in some cases you will be required to cover the cost of issuing new tickets.

This was an awesome experience in the Ecuadorian Amazon. We saw lots of animals and visited a local family. We really enjoyed the early morning and late afternoon walks and canoe rides.

We loved this trip, the Amazon was everything we hoped it would be. The accommodation was lovely, our guide Ruben was really friendly and knowledgeable and the food was excellent. It was a joy to see all the wildlife that we did and meet local people.

I have just taken a wonderful one month holiday to Galapagos Islands, the amazingly relaxing Amazon Jungle, Peru with the beautiful Machu Picchiu, Titicaca lake and so much more, Argentina and Brazil where we visited other wonders of the world like Iguazu falls and Christ the Redeemer. I recommend to anyone to take this holiday if you ever dreamt about visiting all these places. This holiday is a dream even for the people living in South America whom we met. We have learnt a lot about the traditions and way of life in South America, types of food and drinks. We met families who prepared food or drinks for us. In Lake Titicaca we went on a floating island where a few families live and we have learnt how they have to build a new island to live on every three month, we ate local food and we have seen people wearing special clothes according to their importance in the community, on another island made of stone in Titicaca. I took my hiking boots for Amazon jungle but I really needed them on Galapagos Islands where you do have to have a reasonable level of fitness to be able to hike and see the rare animals like the boobies and many other birds and reptiles. In Amazon jungle they provide rubber boots. On my day off in Cusco I took an extra excursion to the Rainbow mountin at 5100 metres latitude which made my experience of South America complete.
