Trip Informations
Move from Kenya’s quieter reserves and conservation areas into the headline landscapes of the Maasai Mara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater on a safari-packed trip through East Africa. Search for the rare Somali ostrich, oryx beisa and gerenuk in Samburu National Reserve, learn about rhino conservation at Ol Pejeta Conservancy and explore the varied habitats of Lake Nakuru National Park. Then, continue to the open plains of the legendary Maasai Mara, cross into Tanzania for 4WD safaris in the Serengeti and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater in the hopes of encountering an endangered black rhino. Along the way, immerse yourself in the local culture on a visit with the Maasai and Hadzabe communities across the varied East African landscapes.
Why you’ll love this trip
Feel the thrill of multiple safaris in iconic parks like Serengeti National Park and the incredible Maasai Mara National Reserve, then set out across the floor of Ngorongoro Crater to hopefully see the endangered black rhinos.
Explore lesser-visited parks with their own secrets to share – search for the rare ‘Samburu Special Five,’ including the reticulated giraffe and Grevy’s zebra in Samburu National Reserve, and learn about rhino conservation work at Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
Plant a tree at the Intrepid-adopted forest near Mt Kenya National Park and play your part in a large-scale reforestation and biodiversity protection project.
Meet the Maasai warriors of Kenya, visit a Maasai village that champions women’s health, and spend time with the Hadzabe community in Tanzania to see how their ancient culture endures today.
Visit local beekeepers to taste some honey, plus see how women and youth in rural areas are learning to generate stable incomes through beekeeping.
Is this trip right for you?
No two journeys in Africa are identical. Be prepared for travel times to be longer or shorter than advised. Weather and road conditions can change things significantly, so embrace the detours, shortcuts and unforgettable moments along the way.
Staying in a permanent tented camp with no barriers between you and the animals is amazing, but it's important to heed the safety advice of your leader.
This is a 4WD overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in 4WD vehicles, visiting remote communities and world-renowned wildlife parks. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the comradery.
There will be many early starts, either to make use of the better safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days.
The day-to-day itinerary features a selection of optional activities. Please note that this list is not exhaustive and is intended only as a guide. Prices are approximate and may change at the discretion of the local provider, and all activities are subject to availability.
