Why you’ll love this trip
Meet the Maasai warriors of Kenya, visit a Maasai village that champions women’s health, and spend time with the Hadzabe community in Tanzania to see how their ancient culture endures today.
Venture into the incredible Maasai Mara National Reserve for 4WD safaris, in the morning and the afternoon. This gives you the best possible chance to spot the amazing wildlife that calls this place home.
Explore the Serengeti National Park in depth, with two early morning and two late afternoon game drives through this spectacular wildlife arena.
Visit Lake Eyasi to meet the Hadzabe people, who have lived in the area for over 10,000 years. Participate in daily activities like hunting and gathering, and discover their unique 'click' language, one of the oldest still in use today.
Safari across the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater in an open roof 4WD for a chance to see the endangered black rhinoceros.
Is this trip right for you?
No two journeys in Africa are identical. Be prepared for travel times to be longer or shorter than advised. Weather and road conditions can change things significantly, so embrace the detours, shortcuts, and unforgettable moments along the way.
Staying in a permanent tented camp in the Serengeti National Park, with no barriers between you and the animals, is amazing, but it's important to heed the safety advice of your leader.
This is a 4WD overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in 4WD vehicles, visiting remote communities and world-renowned wildlife parks. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie.
There will be many early starts either to make use of the better safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days.
The day-to-day itinerary features a selection of optional activities. Please note that this list is not exhaustive and is intended only as a guide. Prices are approximate and may change at the discretion of the local provider. All activities are subject to availability.

This tour is all about effort for reward. You will endure some tough driving days but the rewards are ultimately worth it. It is quite unbelievable the amount and variety of animals we witnessed on this trip and actually how close we were. Florence our leader is such a gem and she really did help make this tour one of my favourites.

Our Safari trip with Intrepid was an unforgettable experience, we enjoyed the wildlife but also getting to meet local tribes, taste the food and experience nights deep in the Serengeti, special thanks to Flor, Gabriel and Apollo who looked after us very well

This tour is a once in a lifetime experience with the opportunity to see traditional culture and so much wildlife. Our drivers Brian, Apollo and Chris in Kenya and John, JB and Jackson in Tanzania were incredible and Florence from Intrepid was an awesome and experienced guide who handled every situation with ease. The new tented camp in the Serengeti is absolutely amazing! We had a great time with a lovely group of people that are now friends and would recommend this trip to anybody.

Just returned from the most incredible East African adventure. From feeding Rothschild giraffes in Nairobi to glamping under the stars in the Serengeti, every moment was unforgettable. We saw lions, leopards, elephants, and even hippos grazing right outside our tent! The Ngorongoro Crater was absolutely breathtaking, and Zanzibar was the perfect way to finish — white sand, turquoise water, and pure relaxation. Be prepared for many of the travel days being long, hot, and very bumpy on dusty roads, but every mile was worth it for the memories we made.

I would highly recommend the East Africa Highlight trip - our tour leader, Patrick, went above and beyond to ensure the trip exceeded our expectations! We saw a ton of wildlife, including the big 5, thanks to the knowledge and skill of our drivers. The food and accommodation was lovely. I was vegetarian during the trip, which was very well catered for. The group was selected very well - balanced by age, nationality & gender - which made we formed lifetime friendships!

Absolutely fabulous trip! We saw the big 5 plus so many other animals. The drive times are long but it’s worth it at the end of the day. Camping in the Serengeti, hearing the animals from your tent at night and doing a hot air balloon ride makes this trip a trip of a life time!
