Trip Informations
Discover the rich artistic heritage, natural attractions and acclaimed cuisines of Croatia, Slovenia and Italy on this 10-day trip from Dubrovnik to Venice. Soak up Split’s ocean views, see Dubrovnik’s renowned walled city and wander through the UNESCO World Heritage site of Plitvice Lakes National Park. Get acquainted with Croatia’s capital, Zagreb, on an orientation walk with your local leader, explore Ljubljana’s Old Town and be romanced by Venice, where you end (or extend) your adventure. Take in both well-known landmarks and lesser-known attractions with a trip that covers all the nature-loving bases in some of the Mediterranean’s hottest locations.
Why you’ll love this trip
Stroll through Plitvice Lakes National Park – a stunning UNESCO World Heritage site with luminous lakes and azure waterfalls that look like they’ve been sketched by an artist.
Walk the streets, medieval buildings and restored castle of Ljubljana’s Old Town – your local leader will know all the hotspots, plus the best cafes for a coffee break.
Feast on fresh Mediterranean seafood, Italian-influenced antipasti and the crunchy, doughy dessert of fritule in the culinary capital of Croatia – Zagreb. Then, if you like, explore the touching Museum of Broken Relationships.
Take a daytrip to Bled and make it your own – ride a pletna boat to the island, climb to St Mary’s Church, swim or cycle by the lake or try Bled cream cake before returning to Ljubljana for the night.
Journey to romantic Venice, with its labyrinth of alleyways, canals, lagoon islands and endless historic attractions. Maybe even hop on a gondola to explore the city from a different perspective.
Is this trip right for you?
Please keep your luggage as small and light as possible. You’ll be travelling on public transport where storage space is limited. You’ll need to be able to lift your luggage into storage racks, walk across cobblestone streets with it and carry it up and down stairs.
This trip is made for those who value their independence but also want the benefit of a local leader and a group of like-minded travellers. The itinerary has plenty of free time, where your leader will offer suggestions of what to do. Please budget spending money for optional activities you want to take part in.
Accommodation on this trip is basic. Hotels in Europe often don’t have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together/apart. Rooms can be small, especially compared to American or Australian standards, and in some cases bathroom facilities will be shared rather than ensuite. Some hotels contain stairs only, with no elevators.
Summer temperatures can exceed 40° C in many regions, so use sun protection, wear light layers and drink plenty of water. Many European hotel rooms do not have air conditioning, which can make hot weather uncomfortable. In winter, pack warm, waterproof layers, as snow and rain are possible, and carefully consider which season best suits you.
