Why you’ll love this trip
Tick off one of the Seven Wonders of the World – the Taj Mahal – during your stay in Agra. An impressive example of Mughal architecture, its carved-marble design is as stunning up close as it is far away.
Enjoy a selection of central Indian staples during an at-home cooking demonstration in Orchha for a tasty and enriching look into authentic Indian family life.
Observe the spiritual moments of pilgrims praying and bathing along the ghats of the sacred Ganges River during an unforgettable sunrise cruise in Varanasi – one of India's holiest cities.
Wake to the calls of the jungle on an overnight lodge stay in Chitwan National Park, then embark on a safari in search of rhino, deer, monkeys and a wide array of birdlife.
Spend a memorable night at Amaltari Madhyavarti Homestay, which provides sustainable incomes and encourages local communities to conserve the wilderness and wildlife around them.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip involves travel on public transport, covering long distances and consequently some long days of travel. Long-distance and overnight trains can often be delayed and occasionally cancelled due to heavy fog between December and February. Some patience will go a long way towards your enjoyment here. Sit back, relax and watch the scenery go by – a book or podcast doesn’t go astray.
We do our best to estimate travel times, but these can often change. That's just how it is in these parts and as a result, there's not as much free or independent time as on some other trips.
Nepal and north India can get surprisingly cold in winter, please be prepared and pack accordingly. Speaking of the weather, it also has the potential to be very hot, depending on the season. Please make sure you check seasonal weather guides and pick a travel time that suits your comfort level.
We've sourced our accommodation carefully and picked the best possible hotels in line with the Tuuur style of travel. Service and accommodation in India may be different from Western standards.
Itinerary
Catch a glimpse into the spirit of everyday life in India and Nepal
From capital to capital, this 15-day adventure through India will take you from the energetic hub of Delhi to the spiritual centre of Kathmandu. Start your journey with the big-ticket sites of the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Old Delhi, then slow down as you move through rural India for a starry night on the bank of the River Ganges. Visit the birthplace of Buddha, enjoy the hospitality of a Thar community homestay, look for the rare Indian rhino at Chitwan National Park and learn recipes from a family in Orchha – this trip is a true look at life in northern South Asia.

Delhi to Kathmandu is the perfect way to experience these beautiful countries. There is a perfect blend of city bustle and calming nature, all while learning the diversity of culture and people. It was a trip of a lifetime and could not recommend enough!

I cannot recommend Intrepid highly enough; excellent customer care, communication, quality of tour leader, community engagement & ethical tourism. My daughter & I just finished India & Nepal. The experience was seamlessly organised, the activities provided diverse cultural experiences and everyone was kind & professional. A high quality brand.

Great trip to merge with Golden triangle trip. Ganges boat/ wild camping and Chitwan National park were my stand out activities. The mix of visiting key monuments/ destinations along with connecting with locals in villages was just right and gave a unique insight to life in India and Nepal. Great trip

We merged this trip with the golden triangle trip which worked well. It’s a safe environment to explore the fantastic people culture, food, wildlife and religious aspects of the India and Nepal. We enjoyed the colours, sounds and tastes this trip had to offer. The trip is a good balance of the busy cities and quieter more relaxing rural villages and river cruise. We definitely want to see more of Nepal and India after this trip.

As an independent, solo traveller I didn’t know what to expect when I booked a group tour, however this experience has changed the way I will do big trips! After seeing the Taj Mahal on day 2, and wondering how it could be topped, my group and I continued to be amazed. This tour was the gift that kept on giving! We had surprise after surprise throughout the trip and experiences which we wouldn’t have had without local knowledge & hidden spots. Our tour leader Jay was as also a highlight as he made the travel expletive seamless with his organisation and communication skills. The trip was the perfect balance of being on the go, doing activities and relaxing. I cannot recommend it enough!
