Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Cycle from Ninh Binh to Tam Coc and soak up one of Vietnam’s most spectacular views – the towering limestone karsts that rise over the rice paddies.
Ride one of Vietnam’ most spectacular highways to Nha Trang, hugging the granite cliffs and looking out across the sea to the many islands and lagoons. Then, chill out in the coastal town once referred to as the 'Cannes of the Orient'.
Discover Mai Chau – a town in a beautiful valley surrounded by green mountains – and enjoy the local hospitality and homecooked meals in your stilt-house homestay in the village of Poom Coong.
Make the most of your time in Hue, Hanoi, Hoi An and Ninh Binh with your expert local leader, their unmatched guidance and the super friendly locals!
Swap your bike for a boat and explore the nearby islands from Nah Trang. Starting on the main boat, you’ll then take a small basket boat to shore and visit a fishing village, go snorkelling in the turquoise waters and feast on a fresh seafood buffet.
Is this trip right for you?
To complete this trip, it’s important that you’re both confident and competent in riding a bicycle.
This trip covers quite a distance – you’ll be cycling for up to 85 km a day on varied terrain, so you’ll need an adequate level of fitness.
You'll be spending one night in a homestay and another on an overnight sleeper train. While the accommodation is shared and basic, this is a great opportunity to interact with the locals and get a real sense of Vietnamese daily life.
If you feel like doing all the riding but with less effort, you'll have the option of hiring an electric bike.
Itinerary
See Vietnam like the locals do and cycle through rice paddies, limestone karsts and small villages
More than 30 million Vietnamese can't be wrong – handle-bar height gives you the best view of vibrant Vietnam! This 15-day cycling trip take you through unique country landscapes, rice paddies, small villages, bustling cities and beside seas dotted with islands. Meet the friendly locals and experience the culture in a way that wouldn't otherwise be possible. You’ll indulge in delicious Vietnamese cuisine (Bahn mi, anyone?), cycle through the ancient sites of Hue, hop on a snorkelling boat to the islands near Nah Trang, chill out on palm-lined coasts, immerse yourself in traditional culture at a homestay and get your blood pumping on challenging, full day rides. It’s time to saddle up!

Cycle Vietnam is a bucket list kind of trip! It’s physically demanding but so rewarding, a unique way to experience this beautiful country. Our leader Chi was exceptional, his knowledge and demeanour made the trip! Would 100% recommend this - train in advance!

We have just completed the bike tour of Vietnam, Hanoi to Saigon. What a great trip. It was a bit hot so I would recommend cooler months to April/ May but overall a fabulous trip. We saw wonderful sights and ate great food. The trip had a good balance of riding and bus transfers and the leader and support crew were excellent. They made the trip from fantastic to truly special

We were so impressed by our guide, I gathered these thoughts into a farewell speech for him. Our ode to Tung Hoang, cycling leader for Hanoi to Ho Chi Mihn City is as follows. "40 years ago, your parents named their eldest son for the noble and strong Pine Tree. And they chose well; throughout our journey you have led from the front; a strong and true leader, showing by example, the way we should go and how we should be in your beautiful and resilient nation. Your leadership at the front of our peloton ensured we knew what pace would be secure for us all to achieve our goals. But like a pine tree, you were also our protection. You showed compassion to those of us with fewer skills and then, when a few of us became unwell, you supported us without smothering, ensuring we had what we needed to make good choices about our wellbeing and our participation in the tour. Just like a mature pine tree, you sheltered your saplings from the harsh sun and cruel winds, providing us with the environment that would allow us to bloom and prosper. For those new to cycling, you provided confidence so they could test and extend themselves, while those already confident, you empowered them to take chances and push beyond what they had thought attainable. You are aptly named; our proud and affable leader, pine tree, Tung. Thank you.”

This Trip was a truly unforgettable experience! Cycling is such a great way to see the country and takes you to paths less travelled. If your are lucky enough to have Tung as your guide you are in for a fantastic 2 weeks! Tung is fun, energetic, funny and deeply knowledagble, cultural and respectful of everyone he encounters. Some of the Cycling can be tough in the heat and I would suggest training prior to coming on this trip but it will be well worth it! I suspect this will be the first of many Intrepid Cycling trips for myself :)
