Trip Informations
Explore the rolling hills and olive groves of Tuscany on this eight-day cycling adventure from Florence to Pisa. Cycle through small, traditional villages backdropped by mountain views in Barga, then ride the pulsing streets of Pisa to the famed lopsided tower. Visit one of the oldest bakeries in Italy, operating since 1885, for a taste of their delicious biscotti (and maybe an espresso, too) and soak up some of the stunning views of Garfagnana – Tuscany's mountainous escape – with a bike ride through the town. With stops in Vinci and Lucca, too, you’re bound to fall in love with provincial Italy (even more than you were before).
Why you’ll love this trip
Pedal through the rolling green hills and vineyards of Tuscany, stopping to sample the local cuisine and indulging in a glass (or two) of vino along the way.
From Lucca's tree-lined city walls, you’ll follow the gentle Serchio River on your bike to the world-famous Leaning Tower of Pisa – take the classic shot in front of the tower or hunt down the best local cafe and people-watch.
Retrace the steps of Leonardo da Vinci around his home city, Vinci. Surrounded by olive groves, your cycle will take you past Casa Natale di Leonardo then returns you to the village where you can explore at your own pace.
Stay in picturesque Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, where you’ll spend your day cycling up and down the valleys, maybe stopping at the famous Fronte della Rocca for one of their cakes and coffees that have been enjoyed since 1885.
Get away from tourist crowds and experience the authentic Italy – on two wheels and two feet, you’ll have the best chance to connect with locals, ride through rural areas you otherwise wouldn’t visit and have the insights from a local leader who knows all the best spots.
By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Tuuur Foundation partner, World Bicycle Relief. Donations provide school kids, health workers, and farmers in far-out areas with bicycles that provide access to education, healthcare, and income.
Is this trip right for you?
To complete this trip, it’s important that you’re both confident and competent in riding a bicycle.
While the cycling distances on this trip are relatively short, the stunning terrain of northern Tuscany is naturally hilly so you’ll need a reasonable level of fitness to enjoy the trip – but remember, we will always have the support vehicle on hand if you need to take a break for an hour or a day.
On this trip we have a single leader that rides with the group, and another that drives the support vehicle (acting as a back marker where needed).
As our riding is done mostly on sealed roads with the occasional gravel cycle path there are no technical cycling skills required – but given the hills involved we do suggest practicing riding downhill so you’re comfortable with this once the trip begins.
If you feel like doing all the riding but with less effort, we have the option of hiring an electric bike (e-bike) on this trip.

Important notes
1. It is very important that you provide your height at time of booking so we can ensure that you have the appropriate sized bicycle when your trip starts. If you do not provide your height ahead of arrival we cannot guarantee a suitably sized bike for you.
2. A single supplement is available if you’d prefer not to share a room on this trip. and is subject to availability. Please speak to your booking agent for further information. The Single Supplement does not include night 7 in Pisa, which will be twin share.
3. An e-bike option (at additional cost) may be available on this trip. We have limited numbers of these bikes available and they are an 'on request' basis only. A request does not guarantee an e-bike, only a confirmed booking. Please ask your agent for more details at the time of booking.
4. Bike helmets are compulsory on this trip. We are unable to hire bike helmets locally so please ensure you bring your own bike helmet from home.
5. On this trip we have a single leader that rides with the group, and another that drives the support vehicle (acting as a back marker where needed). Where the vehicle cannot travel directly with the cyclists (e.g. a cyclists-only path) your leader will assign a person from the group to act as a back marker.
6. As space in the support vehicle is very limited we request that travelers bring only a small bag, no more than 20kgs with them.
7. Due to frequent unscheduled closures we have removed the Verrucole Fortress visit.

Biking through Tuscany with Intrepid was a highlight of my travels. I’d recommend it to any casual rider looking for a new way to experience Italy. The Intrepid team does travel right!

5 stars for the itinerary, schedule, activities, smooth organisation, meals, quality of bikes, communication, guides (Tommaso and Ivan went above and beyond for us). Overall I had a great time and would totally recommend this trip to everyone. This trip wouldn’t have been nearly as good if I tried to organise it myself - everything was made so easy and I felt like a local with the support from our guides. I was only disappointed by the quality of accommodation - B&Bs in Florence and Lucca were basic but nice, however accommodation in Vinci, Barga, Castelnuovo and Pisa was unpleasant (mold in the showers, broken shower heads, stained bedsheets, cigarette packs in non-smoking rooms, ancient dirty carpets, only one room key for two solo travellers sharing) - I hope this can be improved

An absolutely fabolous week with family that were non cyclist, and would definitely recommend it for that. The lead crew and driver were excellent and contributed to the great week and enjoyment. If your after more of a cycling challenge this may not be the trip for you, with some very short days on the bike and a day of not cycling and no freedom to cycle on your own if you wanted too. However, for a first time cycling holiday it is excellent. Too much bus transport to get to the start of days cycling. The itinerary could very easily be improved. Also, you should carefully check the accommodation, as this trip's Hotels were well below acceptable standards for the cost of the trip.

The iTuscany bike tour blew me away. Riding from Florence to Pisa with my husband, adult child, and then amazing group of 13 was unforgettable. Gorgeous mountain rides, charming villages and an unforgettable wine tasting made this the best trip ever! Thank you Tomasso and Ivan for sharing your love of Tuscany and cycling!

Incredible tour of Tuscany, great level of cycling for a fit-ish novel cycler. Tour leader and driver were exceptional in their attentiveness and organisation. Great itinerary!

This trip absolutely exceeded my expectations, and that’s taking into consideration all the previous positive reviews. I’d never been on a cycling tour and i wasn’t sure what to expect, especially as I’m not a very experienced cyclist. Ivan was an outstanding tour leader, he kept us well informed of everything and was extremely supportive. Some of the hills were a little challenging but there is the option (and no shame) for an e-bike or to ride in the support van. Mika had the bikes all ready to go each day and had everything prepared so we barely had to lift a finger. He did this with such positive energy. The scenery on the tour is spectacular and the Tuscan towns were divine. Another successful Intrepid tour for me

Was an amzing trip! I would do it again! Even if it rains every day. My goal was to be able to eat pasta every day and not gain any weight, and have fun doing it! Goal accomplished and then some.
