Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Explore a dreamy slice of Colombia’s Caribbean coast in Tayrona National Park. Hike through rainforest, kick back on white sand shores and swim in calm bays – bliss!
Wander the flower-draped streets of Cartagena’s Old Town – a 16th-century walled city with well-preserved buildings, galleries, cafes and museums.
Get to know Colombian cuisine and hospitality on a street food crawl in Cartagena. Taste favourite local snacks like corn on the cob buns, chorizo sausage and shaved ice dessert.
Explore the intricate mangrove forest of La Boquilla on a canoe tour with a local fisherman. Float through tree tunnels and keep your eyes peeled for leaping fish and raccoons.
Spend time with the Kogui community to learn about their ancient connection to the land and get involved in an Indigenous reforestation project.
Is this trip right for you?
Colombia enjoys a stable year-round climate, but it can get particularly hot and humid on the coast. Be sure to drink plenty of water and wear adequate sun protection.
The hiking in Tayrona Park (Day 4) is one of the highlights, but it’s important to prepare. Bring footwear you can tackle (possible) mud in, and don’t forget your swimming gear for the beaches along the way.
The indigenous communities that inhabit Tayrona National Park request temporary closure of the National Park so that the land may rest and rejuvenate. Normally it will be a period of 15 days in February, June and October/November respectively. Your leader will give you more info at the group meeting should this affect you. One of the alternative activities to do should the park be closed is to visit the indigenous sites of Tayronaka or Katanzama.

We live Intrepid and have used them for the last 10 years. My favourite aspect is that they do interesting activities and places off the usual tourist itinerary. This way you get to see the real country and the real people. The tour leaders have all been amazing.

Don't judge a country by its reputation. What an incredible insight into a beautiful, diverse country. I felt totally safe and loved the fact it is not too touristy. The variety of landscapes and cultural insights make this a must do trip

An incredible way to experience Colombia! The itinerary was well-paced, full of variety, and our guide Rodrigo was outstanding—knowledgeable, kind, and went above and beyond. I learned so much and left already wanting to return.

This was one of the best Intrepid tours I have attended and it has totally transformed my view of Colombia to a must-visit country. So many people ask "but was it safe?". Yes, for the places we visited, we were safer than many places in more developed countries. The tour had a great mix of popular tourist spots such as colourful Cartagena and smaller ones I had not heard of before. The food is wonderful, healthy, and fresh, especially the fish dishes. The longer bus trip was on a comfortable public bus with checked luggage and reclining seats, something I was not expecting in Colombia. I enjoyed visiting the indigenous villages, an opportunity not available to everyone and this sets Intrepid aside as a great tour company.

The Explore Colombia trip is packed with a well-chosen variety of activities - from hiking in a tropical rainforest to a lengthy historic tour of Bogotá. Intepid communicated very well, and their online help (via chat) was quite good. I also really liked and respected our trip leader.

Our guide Hernan Fonseca was outstanding and the itinerary was excellent. It provided the hustle and bustle of Cartagena and Bogota complimented by the quiet and relaxing Barricharra. In addition the visit to the indigenous village to speak with the headman and get a good understanding of their life.

Explore Colombia is a really great short sharp exposure to Colombia, from delightful colonial Cartagena, amazing indigenous experience, beautiful hill oasis of Barichara and a fantastic tour on foot in Bogotá-everything us history nerds could dream of. Our guide Hernan was wonderful knowledgeable and great fun. Our only regret is that we had to go home. Perhaps 2w on this tour too would help!
