We include some key sights in each destination as well as aim to provide some free time for you to make your own discoveries. Past travellers have found that some research before they travel on what they are most interested in seeing and doing has allowed them to maximise their time in each place.

While there is no guarantee you will see a tiger during your safari in Ranthambhore, you may have a chance to see a variety of other wildlife, including hyenas, jackals, deer, langurs, marsh crocodiles, wild boars, and birdlife.

Make sure your luggage is light and compact enough to be able to carry it up and down multiple flights of stairs (ie. in train stations, hotels without elevators).

There are a number of long travel days on this trip. Some journeys take between six to eight hours, but are a great opportunity to get to know locals, fellow travellers, and the diverse scenery. We are covering a lot of this vast country during the trip, so the journey is all part of the India experience.

It’s important to prepare for hot sticky temperatures during the day and cooler climates in the evening, particularly in the desert. Layers are one of the best ways to tackle this disparity in weather. We visit a number of temples on this trip, which requires a certain level of modesty. Please bring clothes that cover the arms and pants/skirts that go past the knees. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it’s hot.

The Classic Rajasthan trip with Intrepid was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, offering the opportunity to explore the hidden gems and vibrant corners of Rajasthan. Renowned for its rich cultural and historical diversity, Rajasthan provided us with a deep insight into its traditions, heritage, and the warmth of its people. The locals we met were incredibly welcoming and gracious, leaving a lasting impression on us.
Our trip was further elevated by our exceptional leader, Surya. His dedication to supporting the group was unwavering, and his professionalism and extensive knowledge added immense value to the journey. Surya’s ability to forge personal connections with each member of the group made the experience even more meaningful and enjoyable.
Additionally, we gained valuable insights into the commendable work of the Intrepid Foundation, which is actively engaged in supporting local communities in India and globally. Their efforts span various critical areas, including environmental sustainability and community empowerment, reflecting a genuine commitment to making a positive impact.
This journey was not just about exploring Rajasthan but also about connecting with its people and learning about initiatives that are transforming lives.

As a first time traveller to India Classic Rajasthan was a wonderful introduction
to the subcontinent. I loved the programme, which was varied and interesting, I especially enjoyed the time spent in the countryside at beautiful heritage properties. I enjoyed the history knowledge and compassion displayed by
our guide Deepa. And the food was fantastic! There was less hassling than I expected overall, apart from when you showed any interest in products at any market, and travelling in December it was cooler than I expected, especially in the countryside. The daily high is only a short time in the middle of the day.

Amazing way to see a lot of India. The heritage stays and rural places were especially wonderful.
Bring plenty of layers for warm days and cold nights and when your leader suggests tugging up for a part of the trip, take note!

We embarked on our first trip to India with Intrepid , choosing Classic Rajasthan. It was probably the best holiday we have ever had: it far exceeded our expectations especially given the price which represents really excellent value. We were a small group of 8 and the diversity of the group added to the enjoyment of the trip. Our superb guide Anjali ran the packed programme like clockwork as we moved seamlessly from place to place via trains, SUVs minibuses, taxis jeeps and tuk tuks . We saw the star attractions but also hidden gems , spent time in local villages and learnt so much about the country . Our accommodation ranged from mid level hotels to a stunning tented camp, ancient fort and palace. We had excellent food in a variety of settings including with a local family . The pace was perfect and allowed time for independent exploration or just relaxing. We can’t wait to return and having discovered Intrepid will be going with them to Southern India.

We had the most amazing trip. Intrepid's planning made everything run smoothly, enabling us to do twice as much as we would have if we had planned it ourselves. Our guide Anjali was outstanding. We are already planning our next Intrepid tour.
