Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Take 4WD safaris through five iconic wildlife parks and spot the African wildlife you’ve always wanted to see, including herds of elephants, lions, cheetahs, zebras, flamingos, hippos and so much more.
Hike at the base of Mt Meru – look out for local wildlife as you soak up the incredible views, on the way to a thundering waterfall for lunch. You might see buffalo, giraffes, zebras, Kilimanjaro colobus monkeys and Harvey’s red duikers along the way.
Learn about the Patinaai Osim Project – one of The Tuuur Foundation partners – and how they’re working to fight gender inequality for Indigenous communities, and how they provide a safe space or local women and girls.
Optional visit to a small Hadzabe tribe to learn about their nomadic hunter-gatherer lifestyle and their unique ‘click’ language, which is believed to be one of the oldest languages still in use today.
Take a traditional cooking class in Arusha in Tanzania with local women who will show you the tips and tricks of local food before you tuck into a delicious breakfast together.
Is this trip right for you?
This is a 4WD overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in 4WD vehicles, visiting remote communities and world-renowned wildlife parks. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie.
There will be many early starts either to make use of the better safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days.
This trip includes a hike in the foothills of Mount Meru. The hike is quite steep and takes approximately 4 hours. A reasonable level of fitness is required. We recommend bringing sturdy, comfortable hiking or trail shoes with good support. Please see Day 8 of the Itinerary for more information.
The day-to-day itinerary features a selection of optional activities. Please note that this list is not exhaustive and is intended only as a guide. Prices are approximate and may change at the discretion of the local provider, and all activities are subject to availability.

The trip itinerary meant we got to say a range of animals across a varied set of landscapes, and extremely interesting examples of some of the different cultures and tribal lifestyles and habits within the regions we visited. Optional visits to villages were incredibly interesting and handled respectfully. Highly recommend!

An unforgettable experience overall with Intrepid’s safari. The itinerary was diverse and well-planned, and our guide Tim was exceptional. However, we faced some issues with vehicle conditions, uncommunicated itinerary changes, and long, unnecessary drives. Still, a trip of a lifetime!

Overall, we had a great time on this tour! Expect lots of time spent in safari truck and long drives. Also expect to see lots on safari and stay in some great accommodations! As non campers, we were very comfortable. There is some issues with the itinerary, ex. Going to lake Elementatia but it's so far, not having time to do anything there. Food was buffet almost everywhere and good. Says water was included but not always at meal times. Overall I would recommend if you are comfortable with lots of driving.

Overall the items included in this itinerary were strong - you felt you got a true Kenyan and Tanzanian experience! Most accommodations were great. Make sure you ask for an updated itinerary and list of inclusions and exclusions before the trip - ours was different than anticipated.
