Why you’ll love this trip
Discover a land of contrasts and uncover the turbulent history with visits to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek – a sobering but essential experience.
Explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed archaeological complex of Angkor with an included day pass. Tour the complex with a local guide, take part in a monk blessing and if you’re keen, maybe even start the day early for sunrise over the temples.
Have lunch at The Spoon Restaurant and Training School in Siem Reap – this school offers disadvantaged students the chance to learn a profession in hospitality. You’ll learn about the NGO’s efforts and tuck into a delicious meal of international and Khmer cuisine.
Visit the lakeside village of Kampong Phluck and see the colourful stilt houses that are built to withstand flooding, surrounded by mangrove forests.
Be welcomed into a local countryside village for a tour of their agricultural surroundings and enjoy sunset drinks with a local family in their stilt house.
Is this trip right for you?
The stories and history shared at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek are confronting and many travellers will find them upsetting. This is an important part of Cambodia’s recent history that we feel is important for travellers to know. If you would prefer not to join these activities your leader can recommend some optional alternatives. Some further information on visiting the Killing Fields of Choeung Ekcan be found here: https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/importance-visiting-cambodia-killing-fields/ https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/importance-visiting-cambodia-killing-fields/ (https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/importance-visiting-cambodia-killing-fields/)
You will visit several temples on this trip, and this requires a level of modesty. Be sure to bring clothes that cover the arms and pants or skirts that go past the knees. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it’s hot.
Itinerary
Uncover the layered history of Cambodia with visits to Angkor Wat, local homes and historic sites

We have been on many family trips, but this particular trip to Cambodia was the best so far. The main reason for such a wondeful holiday was our tour leader. Pum Soeurn was very professional, kind and a great person to sepnd time with. The trip was seamless and everyone on the tour felt comfortable and relaxed. His knowledge on history, places and overall organisation of the tour was top notch. I would like to thank Intrepid for providing us with such a great tour, and the perfect tour leader to showcase what Cambodia had to offer. Many great memories indeed. Regards, Lee Wong

He will take the extra step to help in whatever way including local recommendations and next country places to visit. No WiFi was available on the bus but he was very generous to use hotspot on his phone do we could keep connected to family. He took amazing group shots at the major attractions.

Saram was a great tour leader and we learned heaps about the places we visited in Cambodia. He knew all the best places to get photos from and had great restaurant recommendations as well. Shout out also to our excellent bus driver and his cold towels during the hot day at Angkor Wat.
