Trip Informations
Combine the history of the Khmer Empire with the modern energy of Phnom Penh for a week-long introduction to Cambodia. Witness the grandeur of ancient Angkor Wat – the famed UNESCO World Heritage site, see the enigmatic faces of Bayon temple, confront the tragedy of the recent past with sobering visits to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek and be blessed by a local monk. Visit local farms, homes and the floating village of Kampong Phluck to rub shoulders with the locals and tuck into some delicious local cuisine – this is the perfect snapshot of the many wonders inside Cambodia!
Why you’ll love this trip
Discover a land of contrasts and uncover the turbulent history with visits to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek – a sobering but essential experience.
Explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed archaeological complex of Angkor with an included day pass. Tour the complex with a local guide, take part in a monk blessing and if you’re keen, maybe even start the day early for sunrise over the temples.
Have lunch at The Spoon Restaurant and Training School in Siem Reap – this school offers disadvantaged students the chance to learn a profession in hospitality. You’ll learn about the NGO’s efforts and tuck into a delicious meal of international and Khmer cuisine.
Visit the lakeside village of Kampong Phluck and see the colourful stilt houses that are built to withstand flooding, surrounded by mangrove forests.
Be welcomed into a local countryside village for a tour of their agricultural surroundings and enjoy sunset drinks with a local family in their stilt house.
Is this trip right for you?
The stories and history shared at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek are confronting and many travellers will find them upsetting. This is an important part of Cambodia’s recent history that we feel is important for travellers to know. If you would prefer not to join these activities your leader can recommend some optional alternatives. Some further information on visiting the Killing Fields of Choeung Ekcan be found here: https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/importance-visiting-cambodia-killing-fields/ https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/importance-visiting-cambodia-killing-fields/ (https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/importance-visiting-cambodia-killing-fields/)
You will visit several temples on this trip, and this requires a level of modesty. Be sure to bring clothes that cover the arms and pants or skirts that go past the knees. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it’s hot.

If you need a holiday from your busy life, but don’t have the brain capacity to plan it, I cannot recommend Intrepid more. It’s the perfect holiday to do solo travel, meet some fabulous people and not have to plan much at all. You get to explore a whole new country, without having to make many decisions at all. The perfect way to travel!!

Classic Cambodia was an amazing introduction to the beautiful country of Cambodia. I’ve enjoyed every moment and it has taught me more of the heavy history. Special highlight would be Angkor Wat. Sreymom/Mom was an awesome tour leader thank you for a wonderful and memorable trip.

Cambodia/Vietnam trip. Rou our guide was so knowledgeable, approachable and caring. I would highly recommend this trip as covers a lot of the highlights with like minded travellers. This is a great trip for those with only a couple of weeks spare as you pack a lot in, but not at a hectic pace. What a bonus if you get Rou as your guide through Cambodia.
