Why you’ll love this trip
Discover a land of contrasts and uncover the turbulent history with visits to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek – a sobering but essential experience.
Explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed archaeological complex of Angkor with an included day pass. Tour the complex with a local guide, take part in a monk blessing and if you’re keen, maybe even start the day early for sunrise over the temples.
Have lunch at The Spoon Restaurant and Training School in Siem Reap – this school offers disadvantaged students the chance to learn a profession in hospitality. You’ll learn about the NGO’s efforts and tuck into a delicious meal of international and Khmer cuisine.
Visit the lakeside village of Kampong Phluck and see the colourful stilt houses that are built to withstand flooding, surrounded by mangrove forests.
Be welcomed into a local countryside village for a tour of their agricultural surroundings and enjoy sunset drinks with a local family in their stilt house.
Is this trip right for you?
The stories and history shared at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek are confronting and many travellers will find them upsetting. This is an important part of Cambodia’s recent history that we feel is important for travellers to know. If you would prefer not to join these activities your leader can recommend some optional alternatives. Some further information on visiting the Killing Fields of Choeung Ekcan be found here: https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/importance-visiting-cambodia-killing-fields/ https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/importance-visiting-cambodia-killing-fields/ (https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/importance-visiting-cambodia-killing-fields/)
You will visit several temples on this trip, and this requires a level of modesty. Be sure to bring clothes that cover the arms and pants or skirts that go past the knees. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it’s hot.
Itinerary

This short tour is the best way to understand Cambodia. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable and patient with my constant questions. Cambodia is stunning and diverse. It's a must do if you want to have a better understanding of South East Asia.

This was my first Intrepid tour, and I’m nervous I’m spoiled for future tours. It was an amazing introduction to Cambodia, exploring Phnom Penh and Siem Reap with a mix of must-sees (Angkor Wat) and unexpected highlights (sunset at a local farm) that made me want to spend even more time there. Given the country’s recent history, the sights and stories were devastating at times, but I would highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to get off the well-worn tourist paths in Southeast Asia and explore a country that is rapidly changing each year.

I knew very little about the beautiful country of Cambodia before this trip: in just a few days we learned and explored so much, whilst also having time to ourselves. The food was great and our guide, Saopheak, was brilliant: great company and an organised, attentive leader. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing, knowledgeable Tour guide in Sareth. He organised the tour so well. We particularly liked how he supported the local people by having lunch in the cafe that trained underprivileged children to gain skills for future employment and visiting a local farmer and his family to watch the sunset
