Immerse yourself in natural wonders and abundant wildlife unique to Borneo on this 10-day adventure. Journey through lush rainforests, navigate scenic rivers and explore the traditional villages of this beautiful region. Hang out with orangutans in Sepilok, cruise along the Kinabatangan River, unwind on the shores of Manukan Island and get a taste of vibrant city life in Kota Kinabalu. This restorative deep dive into nature will undoubtedly leave you wanting to return again and again.
Why you’ll love this trip
Visit endangered orangutans at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre – a facility that provides care for orphaned and confiscated primates and other local wildlife.
Learn about a social enterprise that empowers women in the mountainous village of Kampung Kiau and enjoy a traditional lunch of regional favourites.
Soak up the calm beach vibes with two relaxing days on Manukan Island where you’ll get up close to diverse marine life on a snorkelling trip.
Search for pygmy elephants and proboscis monkeys as you cruise the Kinabatangan River on a water safari.
Savour local cuisine, like roti canai and teh tarik, during food tastings on a heritage walk in Sandakan.
Is this trip right for you?
As you travel across Borneo, you’ll stay in a variety of accommodation, from standard hotels to jungle lodges. Some accommodation may have less amenities than a standard hotel, but the unique locations and proximity to nature makes them worth it.
This trip doesn't include climbing Mt Kinabalu. If this is something that interests you, check out our Sabah Adventure (TMSC).
This trip includes time spent travelling in a private vehicle with your group, where space may be limited and conditions may feel a bit snug. It's all part of the adventure and a great way to get to know your fellow travellers. There are a few long days of travel as you'll be covering a lot of ground. You will, however, make stops at interesting locations to break up the longer drives. Please read the Itinerary carefully for travel time estimates.

This is my second trip with Intrepid and again they have done a fantastic job. The trip was very well described and I was impressed with how well organised everything was. Our guide was amazing, so friendly and informative and she made the trip feel special for our group. I’ll definitely be looking to book more with Intrepid

My trip to Borneo was fabulous. In safe, professional hands from beginning to end. Our guide has a wealth of local knowledge and world history which added a dimension to the trip. Evident is respect for the environment and people. The activities gave an insight into the country and its culture. Every person associated with the tour contributed so much. Can't recommend taking a trip with Intrepid highly enough. An unforgettable, beautiful experience.

Our trip to North Borneo was an amazing experience, made so by the care, attention and enthusiasm brought to it by our guide Belle. We were looked after well and got a lot out of our trip by having such an enthusiastic leader. This was our first experience of a guided trip for me and my husband and we were pleasantly surprised how enjoyable it was being with a group for an extended period. People from different backgrounds and ages but with a common love of wildlife and new cultures.

Getting to see Orangutans and elephants as well as numerous other animals in the wild was brilliant and unforgettable. First group tour, met some great people, so probably not my last.

Classic Borneo intrigued me because of the variety of experiences on offer and it delivered 100%. Our guide Joh Min has been totally professional, helpful, knowledgeable, funny and we have been blessed to meet him. I would highly recommend Intrepid. Both my husband and I will use them again. The world is a big place and we will continue to explore it with Intrepid's professional help.
