Why you’ll love this trip
Visit endangered orangutans at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre – a facility that provides care for orphaned and confiscated primates and other local wildlife.
Learn about a social enterprise that empowers women in the mountainous village of Kampung Kiau and enjoy a traditional lunch of regional favourites.
Soak up the calm beach vibes with two relaxing days on Manukan Island where you’ll get up close to diverse marine life on a snorkelling trip.
Search for pygmy elephants and proboscis monkeys as you cruise the Kinabatangan River on a water safari.
Savour local cuisine, like roti canai and teh tarik, during food tastings on a heritage walk in Sandakan.
Is this trip right for you?
As you travel across Borneo, you’ll stay in a variety of accommodation, from standard hotels to jungle lodges. Some accommodation may have less amenities than a standard hotel, but the unique locations and proximity to nature makes them worth it.
This trip doesn't include climbing Mt Kinabalu. If this is something that interests you, check out our Sabah Adventure (TMSC).
This trip includes time spent travelling in a private vehicle with your group, where space may be limited and conditions may feel a bit snug. It's all part of the adventure and a great way to get to know your fellow travellers. There are a few long days of travel as you'll be covering a lot of ground. You will, however, make stops at interesting locations to break up the longer drives. Please read the Itinerary carefully for travel time estimates.

This was an ideal trip. The itinerary was well paced and well balanced. The small group of 12 was perfect, with plenty of opportunity to stick together and some time to be independent too. And spotting all of the Borneo 'big five' in the wild was fabulous.

Borneo was our second trip with Intrepid our first was the golden triangle in India. On both occasions our tour guides were excellent, we would have no problem booking with Intrepid again ic the destination was where we wanted to go

We had an excellent guide in Jeffry who had genuine excitement and pride in showing his country. It was nice to see someone who clearly enjoyed his work and the company he worked for. A great itinerary seeing many different sides of Borneo and its animals and a good selection of accommodation.

The Borneo comfort tour is a fabulous immersion into Sabah’s local culture, traditions and wildlife. Amazing shared experience with a wonderful group of people all led by the most passionate and knowledgeable guide. What more could you want from a holiday?!

This trip was perfect for us as there was a great variety of activities, from exploring nature in the jungle and on the river to snorkelling thru a coral reef , coupled with many contacts with locals who invited us in to their homes and small local businesses, as well as rest and beach relaxation and city vibes . Alongside an excellent leader Jeffry this was the perfect trip and we will be back to Intrepid and SE Asia very soon .

Classic Bornio was an amazing trip. Our leader Jeffry was incredibly passionate about Bornio’s conservation and wildlife and this particularly heightened our groups jungle experience. He ensured all members of our group had a wonderful time and that everything ran smoothly. The accommodation and transport was comfortable and there was a good balance of activities and downtime. We had a diverse and lovely group of people on our tour. Bornio is a very special place for its unique animals and environment, friendly people and culture. I highly recommend this tour 10/10!

The orangutan sanctuary was lovely to see and the dumbest sanctuary was an unexpected highlight. Seeing so much wildlife in the jungle was amazing and such an experience. Rounding it all off with a relaxing few days on Manukan island was great.

The tour of the Sabah region was a wonderful and varied cultural and natural experience, all brought together by our truly excellent local guide - if I could I would turn around and do it all over again!
